Do you think Trump says a lot of crazy nonsense off the cuff, or are his outrageous statements carefully calculated to manipulate the media and the public?
I think it's a bit of both. I think the really big outrageous statements are probably planned to make a big impact and keep public attention focused on him and away from the other republican candidates.
He has no filter. He says whatever pops into his head. *Some* is calculated to get a reaction: he *has* to be the center of all attention at all times.
Beyond that, it is classic populist speech-making. Reminds me of the politician in "Brother Where Art Thou."
Trump is an *entertainer*. What we're seeing is the "Donald Trump for President" show. He is regularly caught saying something without thinking it thru & having to "clean it up," which is why I discount calculated in the sense that he decided in advance everything he intended to say & how. He isn't "packaged" like politicians usually are & that has been a *lot* of his appeal. But he talks *too* much with disregard to results becuz he's going for an *effect* over content.
It should be concerning to have another person who is *really* good at campaigning... but who may not have the *temperament* or *constitution* to conform to submitting to the confines of executive/legislative/judicial team work.
We don't need another Emperor in Chief who will rule by executive order/action/fiat.
He's crazy, bigoted, and would make a bad politician, but he's not stupid. He's crazy remarks are keeping him in the news, trending on Twitter, and at the top of Republican polls.
Say what you want about Trump, he's no idiot. Everything he says and does is calculated and nothing he says is an accident. I don't support him but he's not the fool the MSM is trying to make him.
