When entering your dwelling or vehicle do you have your keys out and ready to go or do you have to fish them out. I have my and ready to go on my husbands always fumbling. I don't say anything but I find it irritating.

I lose keys. Everything has a fob or number pad just because of that....

I love my car, as I never have to dig for the fob, I just get in and push the start button.

With my cars I don't have to take them out so I'm ready. With my house or office it depends on whatever I'm doing before getting to the door.

I always have them ready, and try to be careful and aware in parking lots.

If I'm carrying anything, like when my daughter is helping me bring in bags of groceries, I try to always have my key out and ready, so I don't have to set things down or she doesn't have to stand around waiting while holding stuff. Otherwise I'm almost always alone, and it doesn't matter much (as long as I'm empty handed), but even then I *usually* have the key out.

Maybe this speaks to my paranoia but I have my keys out with the largest of them in my hand. Makes for a decent weapon to the eyes.

I do that, too. I was trained to do that by a self-defense expert.

I have my keys clipped to the outside of my purse with a carabiner, so they are always ready.

I use a carabiner, too. I want those keys out and ready to go whenever I'm in a vulnerable situation.

Or I should say just the same. Have to help her find keys nearly everyday.

Usually ready to go, but a few extra seconds getting them out of my pocket beats a lot of extra seconds looking for them in the dark because I had them out early and dropped them.

I recommend getting a keypad lock it has worked great for us.

As a female, you should always have your keys in your hand ready to go, particularly at night. No sense dallying outside darkened doorways or on dark streets looking for keys. And if you hold the keys in your hand so that the tips come out through your knuckles, they make a great self defense weapon just in case.

My car is keyless, so I don't have to do anything. It just opens when I touch the door handle.

Our house is keyless, too, but I have to type in a code.

I would like to switch our house to keyless. How do you like it?

We love it. It's nice being able to verify that the door is locked just by looking at my phone, and not having to carry keys around anymore is great.

Thank you for the input. Our daughter lives with us and is constantly losing house keys. Very frustrating for everybody.

We had keyless at our last place...I miss it. I haven't updated this house yet. It's on the list (unfortunately, the list is long). My car is keyless, I'm never going back to that nonsense again.

Same here. I haven't had a key in my pocket in about 6 years. It's awesome.

You guys are making me really want a keyless entry.

I leave my keys in the ignition of my truck that's parked in my garage.

My husband has done that but he's left it up in our driveway with the windows down.

For my residence I have my key out before I even get to the stairs. For my car all I have to do is have the key with me and grab the door handle to unlock it, so I keep the keys in my pocket.

If I am going to have passengers, I stick my hand in my pocket and use the button to unlock so that the doors are unlocked before anyone gets to it.

That is considerate.

The thing that makes me angry is my husband has auto locks on his car, but he doesn't unlock it until after I've already been standing there for several seconds or even pulled the handle.

My husband is the same way. I'll stay out of the rain and I'll wait for him to quit fiddling around with stuff.

Do you find it irritating also? I'm out walking I'll get my keys out about half a block away if I'm in the car I'll just have them ready to go. When we needed keys to drive the car he would put in his pocket. Than fish them out and fumble for the right key at the door.

I do find it irritating, but mostly I choose to find it amusing. It doesn't make any sense! You know you're going to need those keys--get them out! Like you, I've kept my mouth shut.

I wonder if this might turn into a gender thing.
