Now that all military positions are open to women is it discriminatory to only have men register for the draft?
No, just is not appropriate to place women in combat situations.
Of course. That being said, if you need to draft, its probably not a war you should be fighting.
Make women register. There's never going to be a draft again anyways
Why should it matter if there's another draft? Women should be required to register, period.
Everybody who's just says there shouldn't be a draft, that isn't an answer. There must be a draft. Removing it is not an option.
I think that could change if the govt tried to enforce it.
What draft? Lol. The 60s was a long time ago.
Come on laserbeam you'd make a great soldier if that's what you decided to do I bet. Lol.
I would be a terrible soldier and likely end up going AWOL or getting dishonorably discharged lol. The ideal soldier is somebody who doesn't mind giving up their freedom and becoming expendable government property. Someone who doesn't mind taking orders without questioning authority and can be 'molded' into what they want you to be, at the cost of your individuality (which is essentially the point of boot camp). That doesn't describe me in the least.
That said, I agree that if there were to be a draft in the future, people of all genders/sexes should be eligible to be selected.
Lol. Wow! I agree with your assent of what it takes and indeed I am retired from the army believe it or not. No one knows you better than you and I think what you say is powerful. Thanks for your thoughtful reply.
As a side note, I am not trying to offend any soldiers, that's just the way I see it.
Still all I can think of is my daughter and I wouldn't want her drafted. Call me old fashion but I wouldn't like that - not my baby girl. Lol.
This retired soldier is not offended I thought you nailed it. Still I agree others might be offended.
Personally, if there's a draft, Canada's looking pretty good 😁
Lol. I love it. Also, I think this is why we should have a draft as it would make going to war and being in the military or even having a military a much more serious consideration. All this boots on the ground stuff would abate quickly if the risks were more widely distributed. One man's opinion.
Moonbeam ... 18 year old males are required to register with the Selective Service. You dodged the question ... if women can now do anything in the military, should women also be required to register for the Selective Service? It's a simple yes/no. Snark not required!
There shouldn't be a draft in any circumstances. But if there is, both genders need to be drafted
Therefore, at 18 both men and women should be required to register for the Selective Service.
For this scenario, yes.
There is no qualification. Women can now perform any military function therefore the must be required to register. Period.
I'm not disagreeing with you lmao.
That's not an option though.
Yes, but I don't think there should be a draft.
Yes, but then, it always was. We're slowly fixing these kinds of things.
I maintain my position - no draft for anyone.
Absolutely. Other countries successfully require that women serve in the military. It makes complete sense to teach women to defend themselves and their country.
Of course it's discriminatory!
I may be an odd duck for an advocate of equality, but I do not support women being included in the draft. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm a free being. They should absolutely be allowed to be in any position voluntarily, but if we go to war and have a draft, I think both men and women should be recruited, but only men for the draft.
Yep, you're a sexist.
"Advocate of equality"
"only men for the draft."
These are mutually exclusive. If you believe that the government should require certain things of half its population solely because of their genitalia, you do not advocate equality.
Surprise, surprise, a hypocritical liberal!
