Are most of the women on TV news hired as gorgeous, model-like "token women" to appease the people that complain about sexism on television, or are most of them hired because they're actually qualified?
Both. They wouldn't hire a women that wasn't both qualified and good looking.
FNC women look good & know their stuff too.
Let's be honest, almost anyone is qualified for that job. It's therefore pretty easy to find attractive people to hire.
Good looking so they are qualified. What more does it take to be a talking head reading a TelePrompTer? Weird spelling correction. Look at the current president...
Haha. Agreed on teh part about newscasters.
Token, some are as dumb or as boring as a box of rocks
There are certainly some very well qualified and beautiful women on tv which is by design to attract males. But beauty will trump well qualified. Every. Time.
It's easier to take a pretty woman and have her rip and read and learn on the job than it is to find someone not so attractive and try and make her appealing. Hard to swallow? Yes but that's the business.
Agreed. Very well said.
For the most part because they're beautiful and to appease feminists who completely legitimately complain about the lack of intelligent women on TV. I loved Candy Crowley from CNN's State of the Union, but she left the show a few months ago.
Hey what's going on with Philly? About to get a visit from the Pope? I hear the city is pretty much going to be a parking lot.
Yeah, Luckily I live within walking distance to work so I'm just gonna walk the next few days. I don't envy the people who live in the suburbs and have to commute.
It's great for the Catholics in the city, though and good to get some publicity and headlines about Philly. It's really an underrated city.
