False - The first German Blue Riband winner was the SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse of the Norddeutscher Lloyd Line in 1898 with an average speed of 22.3 knots. After that, the next 5 record breakers were German including the Deutschland,
the only winner ever from the Hamburg Amerika Line which really did opt for size over speed. Norddeutscher Lloyd took back the prize from the British Mauretania, which held it for 20+ years, in 1928 with their liners Bremen and Europa.
