I'll be activated to help out with the wildfires in the next few days. Don't worry, I'm helicopter support so I won't be digging fire lines or putting out hot spots. Have you ever provided aid in a federal or state disaster area?
Stay safe, Matt! :)
Yep. Flooding in Sedona in '98 (I think), Rodeo fire in '02, Katrina in '05. It's one of the biggest reasons I joined the Guard...
Went to Mississippi to help with the Katrina cleanup.
No, I'm hoping I do thought since I changed to air force but since I'm reserve, not guard, I think my chances are lower.
Go get 'em matt, hooah
Precisely the reason I went guard instead of reserve! I love it!
No, but best of luck, man! Fight the good fight and stay safe!
Wow, here you go again, Matt. Best of luck and thank you!
Good luck and stay safe.
I worked the brush fires in Malibu CA one summer while working for the state parks. I was given a shovel and a 5 gal tank of water strapped to my back. In the hour training we got the thing they said "if you are being overrun by the fire, do not
run away if you do it will catch you and kill you. Run straight into the fire, the fire line moves faster then you can run, and the fire line itself is only a few yards wide".
You stay VERY safe my friend!!
I'll be hanging out with the flight crews on the ground so I should be well away from the fires themselves, but that's good advice.
Good, be safe. Let us know how it goes, I think we all want to hear the stories.
Godspeed to you and the crew.
I have not, I'm not that cool! But my father was a firefighter and was often called on for support for big events (fores, earthquakes, riots, etc).
Fores, fires, whatever!
Stay safe, my friend!
No, I Do not have that skill set.
I am grateful for those, like you, who can and do. I have high regard for you.
Be safe. 8)
Thanks for what you're going out there to do, Macho. You be careful and come back not crispy.
I helped in New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy
I worked with the Red Cross and the Baptist men to provide thousands of meals during Hurricane Floyd in the late 90s.
Yep, Air National Guard MAFS firefighting support. (C-130 air tankers)
Now that's good stuff right there! I'm considering becoming a black hawk or Chinook crew chief. I want to get in on the action!
Wow, that's great, be safe.
I did it for a couple weeks last year and loved it! It looks like I might be put in charge of a group this year too which will look really good as a bullet point on my next NCOER (NCO Evaluation Report). I'm stoked!
Just checking back to see if you're safe.
I'm safe. Haven't gotten over there quite yet. Should be getting on a bird soon though
Ok...you be safe! Reign in all that machoness!
