Would you support the rationing of Earth's resources?
Why ration when all of it is in space? Space has enough resources to give every person in this plant a Western life style for generations.
Maybe not rationed, but atleast find a way to stop blowing all of them. Like more efficient cars
Stop globalization, mercantilism, consumerism, most anything -ism
Locals share and control all local resources and decide how to distribute the rest themselves, not a distant corporation claiming ownership
Survival of the fittest. Natural selection. Only the strong survive.
If you said yes, you want the NWO to happen
How in hell would that even work?
Wtf? Has there been some sort of emergency that I didn't hear about?? 😕😕
This user is currently being ignored
You are an idiot. But by all means, lead by example. Give up electric and live in the forest hunting and gathering your food. We will all hold our breath.
Anyone who says no is a piece of shit
Anyone who says yes is a communist
Anyone who says yes is brainless, hateful, and amoral.
Are you hooked up to the grid? I know the answer but do us a favor and start rationing so we don't have to listen to your idiocy anymore.
No surprise here, we're one of the largest polluters and consuming resources. Sadly, Americans can't see the big picture and the day will come when we will be sorry.
I don't think we need to ration resources, but we need to think differently about their use. We have enough to go around if we are smart around it.
No I am an American therefor I am entitled to more resources....
Lol. People living in wealthy Western countries really think that having resources globally rationed by force will end well? You trust this ominous global force to be completely altruistic as they handle the entirety of wealth in the world? Lololol
New world order
How, short of a one world totalitarian government, would it work?
Meaning what exactly?
I didn't have kids. I get to use all I want.
Maybe in the future, when things get really bad. Because things will get bad if we don't start cutting down on what we use.
If the human race wants to survive, and we don't create technology to import recourses from space, we're going to need to ration sooner or later or the human race is screwed
Or we could find new ways to grow food
Lmao the morals of first world people right here
We already do. That's why we have prices.
Couldn't be expressed better. Thanks.
That article made zero sense. If humans used 150% of the Earth's resources in a single year, it would mean we are importing a third of the resources we use in a year from somewhere else. Outer space?
It's saying we're using 150% of the resources produced this year. The rest of the resources are, say, trees that grew in previous years or coal that was formed centuries ago.
Trees are a renewable crop more than a resource though, no different than any other. And I don't know how much coal is produced in a year, but my bet is it has always been less than consumed since we first started mining it, and when it's gone, meh.
Plan for the future? Nooooooo!
Wow! WORLD socialism?!?!? That would NEVER work!
This has nothing to do with economics.
Lol This has everything to do with economics
not unless there are limited resources since the earth is dying and Republicans still think that global climate change is a political view.
That sounds like a terrible idea.
Yes, if it was necessary.
How would it ever be necessary?
You tell me.
I hate these all or nothing questions. Yes some resources should be rationalized but not all.
How sad that people don't have common sense on their own to see the need for conservation.
Just look at all the successful countries that have tried ratio... oh sh*t.
You mean like the United States during the world wars, the Soviets, or China (our two biggest competitors in history, and all three the victors)?
Assuming this means during an emergency, it is definitely necessary to ration.
I don't think our "biggest competitors'" people were doing so hot back when rationing was a staple of their economy. Shortages and basic necessity queues aren't really living the dream.
Even in the US it was shown that rationing was inefficient and led to many shortages. Letting prices naturally rise on scarce resources acts to reduce waste and provides an incentive to produce more.
And rationing is not essential to divert resources to the military and be victorious. Our military is gargantuan compared to what it used to be without any rationing whatsoever.
The question makes no sense. There are not unlimited resources. They must, therefore, be rationed. Even if rationed by price, that's still being rationed.
I don't think you know what rationed means
While a novel concept, it wouldn't happen. Too many greedy people that can't afford to lose their excess luxury.
And exactly who gets to decide what and how? Now that's scary.
rationing - allow each person to have only a fixed amount of (a particular commodity).
That doesn't answer his question at all. Try again
For all those No voters out there, what are you thinking? Free-For-All, Whoever has the Most Bullets Wins?? Really?? No Forethought or Insight at All on Future Consequences?? Amazing! The film “Idiocracy” is coming to fruition right here, right now.
There's incentives to use resources efficiently. You really think someone needs to to ration out every resource so that U.S. Crazy humans don't run out of sustenance?
Literal?? My post is referring to rationing as a solution that can be avoided. Refer to the Insight and Foresight to future consequences of the post if you can bend your mind forward to envelope population growth rates. Any of this sinking in??
Isn's funny how rationing is usually overseen by those who get the most?
To see how well governments can do this look to the "successes" of Stalinist Russia or current day Venezuela or N Korea: Compared to free market nations, these planned economy nations have been abomnible stewards of the environment.
Exactly. These people saying yes need to crack a Econ book
It would never be done fairly.
Rationing already exists naturally with free markets.
1 for you 1,000,000 for the one guy that has a million times what the rest of us have.
Why do Americans hate the fact that the US is prosperous? This is because the forefathers had the insight to see capitalism and a republic would produce the greatest country. Live with it, you receive the benefits.
If everyone gets equal amounts
We may have to in the near future. With the average current use of resources we are only able to support about 2/3 the current world population indefinitely
In a free market, price is the natural allocator. It "rations" & then drives increased supply or supply of alternatives. Rationing ensures no new resources or alternatives will ever be developed.
Good to know that 40% of the population either has no economic education or does not care to use it.
Great concept but unclear as to its execution.
Not mandatory, but people need to stop being wasteful little pricks.
Maybe in theory but the implementation would be the problem. Look how are governments do business. So I'll say no.
Only if we are in a dire crisis.
And who decides who gets what? Oh wait, I know! The rich leaders get whatever they want and citizens do with less. I don't think so, Scooter. I'm all set, thanks. The government & all it's fat cat politicians already have too much power as it is.
Not arguing, but isn't that kind of how it works already?
Not sure what you mean. In what way? We can still purchase all the food, water, electricity, etc. that we want. What's rationed now?
Yes, but the rich still do get what ever they want.
I have zero problem with the rich getting what they want as long as I have the opportunity to work hard and become rich myself. But, if the opportunity isn't present, due to rationing for instance, then I've got a huge problem with it.
Only if I can do the rationing.
At some point in the far future this may become necessary. I will be long gone and forgotten by then.
Great weight loss idea.
