Seattle has passed a law that requires that all single-stall bathrooms in public spaces, including private businesses, be gender-neutral. Good idea?
I get your private business, gov has no right, argument - but it's a single stall bathroom. At truck stops, if it's single stall and men's is taken, I use women's. Nuthin wrong w that because there's a lock on the door.
I'm sayin, it's not a big deal. Let it go.
Yeah, it's cool if you want to go ahead and do that, all I'm saying is government shouldn't mandate that and force it upon every business. If I had a business, I'd have restrooms for men, women, and neutral, for an occasion like you said.
Adding a third bathroom to your business(s) would be an unnecessary cost to the company. You already have 2 that are perfectly good for all genders.
Single stall bathrooms, not really an issue, but it does seem like a waste of time to issue legislation about it.
There were some bathrooms in Seattle that were larger, and gender neutral (seeming) and those were confusing as hell.
So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause?
Hell yeah, Star Wars
Absolutely ridiculous. This is no better than requiring all houses to do the same.
If it's single use then what's the problem? It's all the same. Perhaps a designated Handicap stall.
I would've supported it till I saw the "private businesses" part.
It makes sense to make them unisex, but there's no need for a law. Just more gov't waste.
I don't care either way. The reason for changing it is the problem.
It's a single stall. Why wouldn't it be for anyone?
Yeah if it's a single stall bathroom
This is soooooo dumb. Get a life people.
This is another case of government regulations where they aren't necessary. If an individual company wishes to do this to their public restrooms there shouldn't be anything stopping them, but they shouldn't require it.
The word "requires" makes it feel a bit unnecessary. I mean, if the company doesn't want to make the smart decision to have single-stall bathrooms gender-neutral then they should have to deal with the unhappy customers, not government officials.
Some of you are completely nuts. Maybe this is not about transgender and simply because it is stupid to have to wait for the men's room to unlock when the women's is available.
Well, as a transgender person, it would sure help me. And my girlfriend. And my therapist. And my friends.
I see bathrooms like this everywhere. If there is only one bathroom (single user) why can't both sexes independently use it? I'm bothered more by the need to legislate it.
For example, doctors and dentists offices usually have a bathroom that everyone uses. I just don't understand why they feel the need to pass a law.
I think it's fine it's only 1 bathroom that's how majority places work anyways it's used by both genders, but if they do it to the rest area bathrooms and stuff it's wayyy too far then...
The fuck is wrong with half of you people? Why the fuck do you care so damn much that you would hate for gender neutral bathrooms to be a thing?!?!
God damnit I misread and I can't delete comments. Forget everything I said. God damn I'm stupid sometimes.
Watch as rape skyrockets
It's single stall bathrooms. Only one person in the room .
Yeah, it's a good idea and pretty much a no-brainer for single stall ones. And it can also help non-binary people who struggle with choosing which bathroom to use.
Fart. I shudder at the thought of gender neutral bathrooms at Walmart.
ONE STALL BATHROOMS. There is only ONE person in the bathroom at a time.
Read below. I made a mistake
Does public places include fast food restaurants, Walmart or hotels? HELL no. *on knees begging hysterically* people are fucking DISGUSTING. I've seen feces on the seat and no toilet paper in sight, women walk out w/o washing their hands, women
Change their kids on the counter when that changing thing is next to them. I'd hate to see what men do. I see it's a single bathroom, but as I said, people can be nasty. It has nothing to do with people's sexual preference. I could give a flyin
I'm all for it, if for no other reason than the girls bathroom line is always soooo long & it would move quicker if everyone could use both bathrooms. Hurry it up ladies!!!
People see gender and immediately side with their party. This just means that you have two bathrooms with one toilet in it. It's a good idea.
Why does it matter if single stall?? I use the men's single stall bathroom at work all the time. Why have a gender when only one person can enter at a time????
Exactly! I was at a Starbucks with my friend today on a road trip, both of us were dying to go but noooo! Is had to be two gender specific stalls!
The people voting against just see gender neutral and went crazy. If multiple stall then yeah I don't want to shit and fart around a cute girl in the same bathroom.
Good idea to make such bathrooms gender neutral by choice, but not at point of a gun. This certainly does not feel like freedom nor do the "leaders" enacting these laws seem interested in allowing people to remain free.
People like you are the reason these laws are required.
But the question is in regards to public restrooms entirely (private or major businesses), not one in your own household. Id hope your restroom isn't gender specific....
I like the idea, but I think making it law is unnecessary
I absolutely believe in the differences between genders. However, when it's a single stall and I have to pee, I'm gonna used the men's toilet if the women's is in use. Who cares when no one else is in there with you??
I don't see the big deal. Everybody shits, why does it matter where you do it as long as it's private?
Yes. Because why are they spending money and time passing laws about this?
No, simply because the government should have no business over telling people how to use their bathrooms
Wait. Why is this a bad idea? And why are some of you upset? It's where you release your bowels....
It's regulating private bathrooms too
So what!? It's a bathroom!
My bathroom, not the publics
Nobody is telling you who can use your bathroom. Like it matters anyway.
Seattle always seems to volunteer to demonstrate why over-legislating is detrimental!
Read: Sudden hike in minimum wage requirements leads to higher prices and fewer jobs, this, etc.
I agree that the sudden huge hike in minimum wage is bad for small business. Now, how is this detrimental?
No problem with this until the part where they intrude in private business...
Why the fuck is the government in the restrooms of private businesses?
The government already is. Americans with Disabilities Act.
If it's such a good idea why do we need a law?
I think because usually they try to avoid making bad ideas into law.
There are thousands of bad ideas that are laws. They're not doing a very good job.
True. There are bad laws. This isn't one of them.
To prevent men from being charged with Peeping Tom or similar crime just because they used a single-user restroom labeled "women ".
I reserve the right to bang on the stall and ask for a tampon, and I don't like pervy men who shouldn't be in the ladies bathroom
What part of single stall bathroom don't you understand?
EV. ER. YYYYYY! woman should be against this. Men's bathrooms are the worst, sheeittiest places I've ever been into.
LOLOL! No. Just no.
The female head on my Navy warship was DIS-GUS-TING!
Gender does not determine a person's cleanliness, a person's individual personality and lifestyle does.
Stupid politically correct bullshit.
They're single-stall bathrooms. There will be no change in functionality---99% of the time, it'll just be a change in signage.
There should be some minor changes though. For example, tampon/pad disposal should be available in both restrooms. Ideally both restrooms should have the same amenities such as baby change table, urinal, tampon/pad dispenser, etc. Plus, it's not...
... necessary for both to be handicap accessible if there isn't enough space, only one needs to be accessible.
So they are now legislating where I can pee. Next, they will say how long. Reminds me off the Family guy episode where the FCC cracks down on censorship. Seattle Washington is soon becoming like California. Seems like IT, luxury lifestyle influence.
Not really... You have more choice now.
They should ban urinals too...I mean, how sexist are those!?
Should ban d*ks too...
That would solve the problem ;-)
Urinals give men a place to pee so they won't pee on the toilet seat. In a single-user restroom it would also be possible for a woman to use it if she learned how to pee standing up (there are devices to assist in such)
If only 1 person is in the bathroom at a time, I don't see why this would be a big deal.
Because they are telling businesses to do something, rather than letting them choose by themselves.
I'm sorry but I can't imagine women actually want men using the same bathrooms in public too....am I alone?
Just last week at a store, I used the men's bathroom (single potty) because someone was in the women's. In this case, the main door locks, so it's not like anyone else can come in. I was thinking at the time how stupid it was to have 1 designated for
women & 1 for men, when they can just have 2 generic bathrooms & you use whichever one is available.
I was thinking along the lines of hygiene and general filthiness.
So man or woman, don't crap on the bowl...
It sounds like the men in your life happen to not be clean. That does not in any way mean all the rest are the same way. You're insulting a lot of people blanketly with your argument.
I'm a man I don't feel insulted.
Um, go check out a rest stop bathroom sometime and then tell me men do a better job with cleanliness in the aggregate.
I am a man btw lol
Holy shit. 800 comments about bathrooms. Can't we all argue something more important? Like what Hillary is going to be charged for, or how we can nuke Russia more efficiently.
No, because Hillary didn't do anything wrong and the Obama dept of justice is obviously part of the vast right wing conspiracy.
I am passionate about restrooms.
That's just gross.
This is something that should be incentivized and encouraged, not dictated.
This is just going to lead to more harassment and rape cases
How so? It's a single stall bathroom…
Oh I must have read too fast.
You're not alone.
Oh god what idiots
