Have you ever worn out the door, but then removed, a coat or other article of clothing that your parents wanted you to wear to school?

Wore? I don't think worn is correct.

I see what you're saying. It's my understanding tho that the past participle of "wear" is "worn." The sentence is poorly constructed regardless, with the unfortunate juxtaposition of "worn" and "out"—would you agree? :(

Sadly, no. I believe it should be wore out. Check it out in the dictionary. I got nailed on this in my writing. Only reason I know.

I hate to quibble, but I'm pretty sure "worn" is correct. You would say "I wore my coat" but not "I have wore my coat." Or even if the "out" was mistakenly attached, you'd say "I wore out my coat" but not "I have wore out my coat."

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this web site, but the information is exactly as I remember: www.writingenglish.com/cverbs/wear.htm
