A circuit court ruled yesterday evening that Texas' Voter ID Law was invalidated because it violated the Voting Rights Act by racially discriminating against blacks and Hispanics. Isn't it more racist to assume blacks and Hispanics can't get ID?

Applying for a Texas ID card looks pretty easy and inexpensive. $16 for an ID that's good for 6 years ($11 If you're 60+)
Requirements: www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/applyforID.htm
Cost: www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/fees.htm

I don't see how that would be so difficult for minorities to get. Really, I think everyone over the age of 18 should carry valid ID. It's just a smart thing to do. Otherwise it makes banking and buying adult beverages, among other things, harder.

It's definitely racist to assume minorities can't get IDs, ridiculously and insultingly racist, IMO.

I've never met anyone entitled to vote that couldn't get a government-issued ID

It's racist to stop people from committing voter fraud.

Liberal Democrats clearly think that blacks and Hispanics are too stupid to obtain the proper identification to vote.

It is very difficult to get a voter ID in Texas without a valid drivers license. And if you are poor you don't drive and so don't have a drivers license. Even a college ID with a photo is not valid.

That's not the only ID accepted.

Accepted forms of identification include a driver’s license, a United States passport, a concealed-handgun license and an election identification certificate issued by the State Department of Public Safety.

Preventing voter fraud is more important.

Or maybe it's fair so you can't vote without an ID

When I registered to vote I brought my birth certificate to prove I was a citizen and 18 years old. And. Brought my high school diploma to prove I could read the ballot.
