You make an outrageous claim on a poll and someone proves your "evidence" wrong. How do you respond?
I definitely don't ignore someone for proving me wrong. That is just silly.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
I check their evidence. If it holds up, acknowledge my error, hit them with 🎅🏿, and go about my day.
That cannot ever, ever, possibly happen. Lol.
Rescind my statement
Half the 'debates' I engage in are more for fun than true beliefs, therefore if someone is educated enough to defend their point.. Good for them
Being wrong by default (married), I usually refrain from these types of claims. If I'm dumb enough to put myself into this situation, I have no problem admitting I'm wrong...
Verify and concede. I'll gladly admit when I'm wrong.
When aren't I?
As susanr said, verify and accept. Not ignore (she's super duper smart!).
I save the ignore button for stupid, rude, and disrespectful people!
If I believe them (I'll usually fact check myself, first), I thank them for the information. If I've misled anyone, I apologize to them. I've been known to go through a whole poll making sure any individual thread where I've made the error gets
notified, because I know people don't always come back to a poll, much less read all the new comments.
You are very conscientious! But I agree, verify and concede.
I'd verify their evidence first before doing anything.
I hope that I would admit I was wrong.
You would. I know you pretty well.
Probably, but I'd feel pretty silly too.
Verify their evidence. If they were right, humble yourself and accept you were wrong.
So you wouldn't ignore them? Got it. Lol.
I ignore for other reasons. Not that. Lol. I've been wrong a time or two!
I wouldn't ignore a user for that, but I've been in a situation where two users imposed some fairly ridiculous claims in regard to something I'd said, & continued to bait me. I ended up being angry at both of them, and put them both on ignore because
I didn't want to hear it any more, and I was afraid I would say something I would regret. It ended up being a horrible fiasco where one of them made a poll about a hypothetical situation (ours, but certainly not as I saw it) without using my name,
but in the comments my name was mentioned, & both those users stated why I had ignored them (which was not correct) & others made their own judgement about why I had done it. Only one person came even close as to why (tired of hearing crap).
@susan: I can assure you this was not the case this time. I proved that the evidence the user supplied was not relevant to the question asked and that the question was misleading.
However, from *their* perspective (the 2, anyway), they probably see the situation entirely differently.
I am never quick to assign motives to anyone for what they do, especially things like that.
I'll take your word for that, swervin, but I'll also re-emphasize that they may see it very differently.
Or hey, maybe they're just embarrassed at being wrong.
You are welcome to judge the conservation for yourself. The user is named Sailingaround. It's their latest poll. I don't like calling users out, but this, I think, is an exception. It's pretty asinine to ignore someone for what was said.
Ah, sailingaround shows up again. He made up the claim that I said all Muslims were terrorists and that I was a bigot. He followed that with "Christians are vile" and put me on ignore. I think that was my first and last debate with that user.
