Based on a recent ru12bseen poll: do you rent a storage locker on a long-term basis?

My entire life has been in a storage unit for the past 14 months. 2 more months and I can move it to an apartment.

Why, yes... Yes, I do. 😏

No, but my garage is full. But to be fair, it's been half closed off to make a bedroom, so it's only 8'-10' deep so not big enough for a car.

I have a 10x10 that I'm renting. Once we move, that storage unit is gone.

I have one in Ohio that I wasn't able to empty before I moved 4 years ago. I hate that fact.

Otherwise, I purged my belongings when I moved & haven't accumulated stuff that I don't want or need since then.

Sounds like money that could be better spent elsewhere. Do you have family or friends that would take care of that for you?

Yes, I hate spending the money. No, I don't have anyone that I would *ask* to take care of it for me, or I would have done that long ago.

It doesn't help that I don't drive, so that even if/when I get there to deal with it, I'm still dependent on

I'm almost to the point of being willing to just abandon it, but there are family heirlooms that I can't in good conscience just give up. A lot of it is stuff from clearing out my parents' house.

Do you have anything that you value and want to keep? If not, maybe call the storage company, cancel the contract and pay to have them clean it out for you. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Yes, that's what I've been saying. There are things I want and need to keep. Otherwise I'd have done what you suggest long ago.

Ah, OK, I didn't catch that until I'd replied to you, too.

Okay, I know you've probably thought of it, but just in case. I know you have lots of contacts on SOH. Would you feel comfortable asking any to clean out the items you want, pack them, and send them to you? There are many nice people who would.

I'm not capable of asking *anyone* to do that for me, but if I were, I have friends in Cincinnati that I'd feel less unwilling to ask, than people who have never met me. I *may* be able to do that later this year, if I can pull of a midwest trip.

But I do thank you for the helpful suggestion; that's really very kind of you.

Best of luck getting it resolved soon, Susan. I lived on low income several years ago, and now I just hate to see money wasted like this. My issue, but none of my business. 😉

Nope. I have a full basement....that I need to purge soon.
