Should people be able to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial USPS mail, even if doing so caused other postal rates to increase?
STOP MAILING ME TRASH lmao!!!
Just think what big corps are paying in posted mail that just goes in the TRASH!!
If I'm in a pissy mood&check the mail I open all that unsolic &rip up and put it in their posted paid envelope-mail it back to them occ including trash out of my purse-gum wrappers, straw papers, empty blister packs etc w a note abt wasted postage
It keeps the post office in business.. And it is easy to throw away..
Don't say yes. Is be out of a job! Lol ( I work in Direct Mail).
Just completely privatize mail already
If they personally had to pay more? Yes. If everyone else had to pay more? No.
Junk mail pays their bills...as much as I dislike getting them I OVERstand.
I would pay $1 per stamp if those damned junk makers would just STOP SENDING CRAP!!!
Heck Yah. If not for that BS I'd only check my mail twice per month; just to get my bills.
No business should be kept alive only because not to do so would cause it to fail......Dumb! The USPS is dying.
Let it Go.
I want a spam filter on my mailbox
USPS is up side down like all the other departments, so we would contribute to their demise.
It would save some trees.
Yes, the waste alone is probably astounding.
Newman will not be happy !
We should phase out USPS entirely and instead rely on private mail service.
I did this today and it felt incredible!!!
Yes, however it's what keeps them going! I am a traditionalist I like sending mail and once and awhile receiving it lol
My father retired from the Post Office 10 years ago. When he used to work there he once told me that if it was not for junk mail that half the people at the Post Office would not have jobs.
Seinfeld nailed it... I haven't gotten actual mail in years since I pay all my bills online.
If you want to stop the problem, make people able to send back letters at the original senders expense... Done.
I like your idea even better than mine!!
USPS NEEDS to go shutdown permanently.
Why? Worst service you'll ever get.
That's grossly overstated.
How would the post office know what is unsolicited?
I think we can do this already.
Some things but not like car insurance poop and life insurance and credit care offers and blah blah blah...
You can do like your smaller stuff but what comes in an envelope you can't or post card form you can't... that I'm aware of!
I think people should be able to opt out on a sender by sender basis.
This would reduce the clutter from business that send you stuff you don't care about on a weekly basis while still allowing new companies to use 3rd class mail to gain exposure.
If it affects others adversely then definitely no
Just for saving the trees alone.
Spamming is soo common. I once made a second email account to play a game (didn't want to use my real one) and within a week that second email account had messages advertising 6 major companies and some porn.
too complicated. on the other hand everyone would opt out. so maybe not so much
Sure, but I just rip it up junk mail. No big deal.
Stop wasting paper. It's so annoying. I haven't had direct tv in over 4 years and they still send me weekly mail
That would be great. Wish there was a way to opt out of all these pre-approved credit card offers too. Lately I've been writing "return to sender" on them and sending putting them back in the mail 😈😈
For a long time if my junk mail included a return envelope I just put it all in that and mailed it back at their expense. It didn't help, but I did enjoy knowing they'd have to pay postage both ways, hopefully a good thing for the USPS.
Yes, directly with the senders, but they should not expect the post office to filter their mail for them unless they are willing to pay extra for the service. Enough extra to cover the costs and shortfall would work out well for everyone.
I can see my son-in-law having convulsions at the very thought of this. From his description, he had to sort each pack of the dumb stuff into all 800+ slots for boxes on his route... and then again, and again, and again, and again... Not to mention
the actual legitimate individually addressed mail. If he had to not-sort all that into certain slots, I have a feeling it might take enough extra time to keep it all straight that everyone's mail would be late &/or they'd have to hire more people.
I think it comes in to our post office here in separate batches. She sorts and puts up the first class first, usually before lunch, then puts up the ads and magazines. Often those don't get done at all on Saturdays. I bet it could be automated.
But I really don't think the post office needs the extra workload. Once it gets into the system, they should just deliver it. If you don't want mail from a particular sender, you should notify them directly, or use the association service.
People should be able to opt out of having a mailbox/address, but if you have one, it's a government product and should be available to all.
Yea! Stop sending me your bullshit
That's not what that phrase means...
Rota do you need me to draw you a map?
Free Market = if you don't like getting mail from them, get rid of your mailbox. Don't expect the govt to ban you.
Commie liberal obamaloving hippie.
Ban it for you*
Rota I refreshed your comments at 11:16pm, and they already had 1 like
Looks like you were exposed at liking your own comments
Also you don't understand the free market
No. I still haven't liked it. Nor do I care to argue about something as childish as whining over someone liking their own comments.
2) you don't understand USPS is a govt mail service and not allowing them to spam is violation of free market policy.
Rota you got exposed for liking your own comment...and now you're trying to get out of it
It's like Nixon or Clinton, the coverup is worse more than the crime. They just dug that hole so deep
But they were really smart and you're...rotA. So we already know what you're gonna do don't we sport?
You can: www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0262-stopping-unsolicited-mail-phone-calls-and-email
As junk mail goes, so goes the USPS.
Probably the most annoying thing about renting in a college town; I get a lot of "*past residents name* or current resident" mail.
That would be great!
If for no other reason than its wasteful and bad for the environment
I get less and less junk mail these days. Maybe that bonfire behind the post office is significant.
