In recent studies, it is found that Psychiatrists commit suicide 3.2x the normal rate of the general population. This statistic is consistent among most mental health professionals. (Psychologists, LCSW's, Psych Nurses)

I've never met a therapist I didn't think had emotional or ego issues.

Secondary trauma is tough. Its basically PTSD for everyone's major issues in life all day, every day

I'm not surprised... I have heard it said that most people who go into those professions do so in an effort to heal themselves.

I know when I was considering that line of work that healing myself was definitely a motivating factor.

I've met a lot of folks that work in the field and most, if not all, have various emotional problems themselves. So, this is not surprising. Great people but it's hard business.
