China and the European union have the highest nominal GDP of all possible trade partners of the US. Which should the US trade more with?

If you must eliminate one to continue with the other, I would eliminate the EU.

China Stockmarket is collapsing and they are Dirty Commies.

Even trading with commies is imo alright as long as the gain is ours ;)

Just playing devil's advocate: if there is major friction, make sure China doesn't freeze your assets.

Nah, I don't think they will. It would be political suicide for them, something the Chinese are really going to try to avoid; notice their ever-increasing shift towards capitalism.

Clearly the EU. Not only is their market more diverse, they're also politically more reliable, so it's unlikely that we'd ever have to impose sanctions on them.

We should never add sanctions to another country, it only adds to the political instability and tensions between the countries

There is no way in hell the US will ever impose sanctions on China. We import too much from them.

It would raise the cost of goods and crash our economy.

China has a $10tril GDP, the US $16tril, the EU $17tril. Imposing economic sanctions on either is not a good idea.

Why in the world would we sanction China?
