When making a decision to lose weight, experts are divided on whether you should weigh yourself everyday or at specific intervals. There's good reasons for both sides. If/when you decide to drop pounds, do you weigh daily or at an interval?
I think periodically is good enough. I usually weigh myself daily and find my losing weight goes in cycles, first down a lot then up a little for a few days then back down again to the next low. Weighing once or twice a week would probably be enough.
Daily. It *has* to be daily for me; I don't want to go a whole week deluding myself that those extra nuts didn't make a difference. And I'm aware that it fluctuates because of other factors, but I just take that into account & don't freak out if it
Every Monday morning is my "official" weigh in. I use that # to gauge my weight loss. I do sneak on the scale some during the week. I mean, it's a big dog scale and I walk past it 50 times a day. Hard to resist lol
When I had weight to lose, I would weigh at Weight Watcher's weekly, but I went more by if I was following the plan. You will not always lose, even if you are doing everything right. Now, the scale alerts me, so I can lose 3 pounds, instead of 100.
While I was losing weight, I weighed myself daily. I kept a food journal and also kept track of weight. It was great inspiration to keep going. Now, I weigh myself about once a week.
Daily, but with the expectation that not every day will show a loss and might even show a gain. If there is a loss it is encouraging; if there is a gain, or no loss, it is motivating. For maintaining weight, the morning scale picks that day's menu.
Using the myfitnesspal app helps too. Losing weight is simple if you keep in mind that you lose 1lb for every 3500 calorie difference in what you consume vs what you burn (on avg).
That 3500 calories per pound thing has been challenged recently, with someone saying it's really about double that. I haven't gotten around to reading anything about it yet so I can't say whether it has a shred of credibility, but I felt
Professionals just say do it at the same time every day. I like to do it first thing before I eat/drink anything because that's when my water weight is at it's lowest point.
Aha. Cool. That makes sense. I live in a lot of hotels and have to trek to the athletic center to find a scale. The issue is that the scales aren't always consistent. Either way, it's something, right.
Daily, because I know there can be pretty major fluctuations on my weight and keeping track daily allows me to account for those changes and track my actual fat loss instead of water and digestive tract loss.
