Question that often is asked at my school: Can a high schooler drink/party underage and still be responsible and a good leader?

No, a good leader sets a good example and drinking/partying in high school is not responsible when most high schoolers can't even be relied on to do their work or keep their rooms clean. Some can but I doubt many of them party very hard.

I think how much/often they drink and "party". Since they are classified separately in the question, party could mean drugs. If it's a nightly thing, maybe not. A few times, ehh we were all experimented.

I see no reason for drinking in high school. Trying alcohol is one thing and that is understandable, but not drinking

Culture. American drinking culture is screwed up, but not all are.

I will let my kids try/taste alcohol in high school, but at home with me there.

No. Acting responsibly means following the law. It's not very hard to navigate high school without breaking the law. I do it just fine, even with the "bad" crowd.

Legality and responsibility don't always mean the same thing

It's is irresponsible to put alcohol in your body at that age. It can slow the mental development. Most kids my age do not understand moderation yet, and will drink themselves to get hangovers and start relying on it so young.

If they did it just to try it, I wouldn't be so against it, but drinking regularly is too bad.

Depends on the culture. Traditionally in many cultures, minors are raised around alchohal and are allowed to drink at times. This works around the idea that when they are of age, they don't feel the need to start drinking often. Granted it can be...

Assumed that he's American, but that doesn't mean he wasn't raised correctly.

Of course. Drinking doesn't mean a lot, just, not something I personally wouldn't follow them.

Have one or two drinks (being sure not to drive), while having fun with friends enjoying a fun party? It's what kids do. Sure.

Getting blasted while snorting cocaine and driving home after breaking windows? No.

No. He would be a hypocrite at best. Being responsible includes acting responsibly with your body, and abusing it with alcohol, tobacco, or any other drugs is not treating your body responsibly. In addition, "partying" under the influence of alcohol

incapacitates your natural inhibitions, and that influence in two healthy, hormone-besieged teenagers leads to early, usually unprotected sex, which results in unplanned pregnancy, STDs, and even the ultimate horror of abortion. This is incompatible

with the character necessary to be a responsible leader. And you can quote me on that! ✟

One can be a good leader, and enjoy drinks. It's the manner with which one drinks, that matters

I don't disagree. I used to drink responsibly until I became a diabetic and my doctor said no more alcohol.
But the tricky thing about drinking is that alcohol removes your inhibitions, including the inhibition to drink too much. Many people can

handle that; many others can't. That's why I usually just recommend against young people drinking. It's safer to be overcautious and sacrifice a little fun than to have regrets later. I've had this discussion with both of my children (24 and 30), and

they both now drink only occasionally and never to excess. 😃
