I have a male friend in his 40s whose father is very ill. Advice on what to say to him to offer support? Seems emasculating/silly to ask if I can help in any way...?

I'd just let him know that your there for him and if he needs anything don't hesitate to ask.

Cela:
1. Be there for him
2. Avoid platitudes. I.e. "I know how you feel" (you don't)
3. Don't over commit or become too involved. Protect yourself.
4. Remember how important the moment is. Keep it sincere/warm. Share love openly but carefully.

"You are in my thoughts and prayers, let me know if there is anything I can do to help."
Greatest words to hear from someone who means it when you are going through tough times.

Say anything. It's better to come off clumsy and trying to be helpful, than say nothing and come off uncaring and apathetic. Bake a batch of cookies and just say something like if you need help, give me a call.

Caregiving takes a lot out of the caregiver emotionally and physically. So anything that might give him a smile. 😊

Wish I could help you but I'm terrible at this too.
