Would you want your next home PC/Mac to have a touchscreen (in addition to the keyboard and mouse)?
I don't feel the need for one, but of someone bought it for me, I wouldn't mind.
I can't see a practical use for a touchscreen OTHER than the windows 8 start screen which I don't even use most of the time.
Agreed. I use Autocad at work and finally had to turn off my desktop's touchscreen feature because it became too annoying when every time I tried pointing things out to coworkers it would select and move things around.
Touchscreen makes everything better ;D
I HAVE a touch screen computer. It's nice to be able to quickly zoom into things or tap a button. I also like drawing with it. I wouldn't be able to get rid of keyboards and mice but I like the extra feature.
I think it's time people get away from the whole keyboard and pointing device idea and THINK DIFFERENT. If tablets become more powerful, I plan on getting rid of my Mac all together or only use it at home for editing. My ipad is simple to use and fun. Notes and presentations are a breeze.
Steve Jobs said when he released the ipad he tested macs with a touchscreen and it's horrible on your wrists to use them. Unless you can get a touchscreen to be at the angle of your hands it's going to be a bad experience.
I have an Alienware and would not want it to be a touchscreen
I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad -- sometimes I forget when using the laptop and I try to navigate by touchscreen. I would LOVE that capability.
No. I like looking at a clean crisp screen. It's bad enough I always have to wipe my iPhone screen.
Getting a windows 8 machine is kinda useless without a touchscreen.
That would just be annoying for such a big screen...
Should be voice controlled instead
Interesting. Thank you. The battery life is concerning, but it is a step in the right direction. The nvidia card will run the monitor, so that is good. We need a breakthrough in battery technology to happen soon....maybe something rechargeable through ambient light?
Indeed, yes! I just paid $42.39 for an upgrade to Windows 8 and know that without a touchscreen I'm not getting the benefit of all the new features I paid for.
Meh, the primary use of a desktop for me would be for drafting and modeling and I can't think of anything the can be done with more dexterity with a touchscreen as opposed to a mouse and keyboard.
My T-Rex arms won't reach across that great divide.
So... You can afford an iPhone/iPad but a new computer is too expensive? I'd think a new computer would be a priority.
Yes, but only if it was the exact same except with a touchscreen. If I'm buying a computer I don't want the OS and programs of a tablet. I love my iPad, which is why I have one, but my computer is a computer. I use them for completely different things.
Had one. Your arms get tired quick and you revert to using the mouse...
Have one and hate it. No more.
@moonshot The closest is the Razor Edge. It's only 10 inches tho.
Computers need lovin too
Not unless the next iMac is a touchscreen without being too iPad-y. I like the iMac as is. Just upgrade the hardware.
What I desire is a lightweight, 12 inch touch screen tablet, with a removable keyboard, that runs Windows 8, that has enough power to tether to a 2560x1440 27 inch monitor and run it seamlessly. No one makes it yet. Maybe next year....
Only if it isn't the core feature of the computer. So many of the windows 8 PCs released just seem gimmicky, offering nothing else besides the fact that they have a touch screen...
I'd get a tablet if i wanted that. My friend has one. Theres no point.
jbosu, it was moved to the charms menu. I was able to download freeware that put the start menu back on the task bar. I forgot I did that. But now it looks just like Windows 7.
We have one, well the kids do, it was cool at first but after about 10 minutes went back to the mouse. Loved that computer so much I gave it to the kids and bought a Mac! Lol
I thought I wanted one but not after reading these comments.
That would b awesome! I'm all for technology. Can't wait to have a clear phone that does everything!
Shoooot.. I already have a touch screen computer!! :D
Mine already have touchscreen, but I would like to buy a Mac with touchscreen...
No. Who wants to raise their hand to the screen when you can rest it on a desk? :p
Apple needs to hurry up and make a touch screen iMac. They'd kick everyone else's butts (but there is no guarantee).
My laptop, that I bought in 2008, was touch screen
Notebooks are more for Students and often have lesser performance to other, 'real' laptops.
I already have one in my house, and I can tell you that there is no advantage to it. It's more often an annoyance.
I hate Windows 8. Is there a way to downgrade to Windows 7?
I just got a Lenovo idea pad yoga. The touch screen is awesome because for the last year I've only used a tablet or phone for Internet. I got used to it. However it came with Windows 8 and needed to buy a For Dummies book to use it.
I don't want to pay for a touchscreen on a desktop computer.
Only if it didn't cost more my friends has a touch screen desktop and says he never even uses the touch screen function
????I do that too Susan!
Nope. I'm very pleased with my MacBook and wish to keep my fingers away from the screen.
I said yes but it's not like I'm set on getting one with a touchscreen it's more of a if it exists then why don't I have it thing. I can't think of anyway a touchscreen monitor would ever help me, though...
No! Theres enough smudgy devices as is.
Where's the start menu? I couldn't figure it out. I'd rather just have windows 7 than a less useful version.
