Many atheists have adopted technology as their religion, believing that technological progress will result in some kind of utopia. This belief in technology is partially faith-based and somewhat irrational.
Haha, the religious have the nerve to say it is irrational. Such hypocrisy.
This is the kind of statement made by someone who is a theist and cannot actually understand that some people neither have nor need faith. Can I desire a better world? Absolutely! Do I expect that humankind will have to make it for themselves? Yes!
Disagree with the statement but loving the amount of atheists represented here.
True. For others climate change is their religion
I don't think it's a religion. I think it's what some people trust but they usually don't worship it and most question its validity.
I haven't noticed this among atheists. I believe technologies can increase prosperity as it evidently has done so far but I also am worried about the new ways technologies can be controlling and destructive. Technologies are just tools.
Being an atheist, i find this ludicrous .
Not this atheist. I mean, tech is fine. I'm an IT manager, after all. But I also think we apply tech in very inappropriate ways.
That seems pretty strange plus as an atheist I've never heard of this or know any atheists that believe this.
Can you elaborate on what exactly you mean by "accept tech as their religion"?
Sure, watch this video is what inspired by poll: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8JrBXz-zKU

Other than maybe you Cole, I do not know a single atheist that thinks like this. So, I disagreed.
I don't think like this, but a good majority of the atheists I know do.
Sorry, I only saw part of your answer below. It seemed like it applied to you. Well, now I'm at zero. 😊 I further disagree.
But, perhaps it's an increasing trend within a certain subset of atheists? Idk.
As an atheist, I totally disagree. I have not substituted technology for religion!
As an atheist myself, I believe widespread human pain and misery will exist as long as humans exist. Technology can make our lives more comfortable, but things will never be perfect. In fact, some aspects of our lives will worsen as our...
Also - it's not surprising that many atheists are optimistic about the future. When you accept the basic facts of life (after death, nothing will happen; most of us will be forgotten within a generation or so; existence has no inherent...
meaning; etc.), it's easy to want to cling onto something like technological progress. Plus, technologies benefits have been so tangible and obvious for the last few decades...it's easy to believe that life will just keep getting better and better...
and that all of our problems will disappear. But that's never going to happen.
To be a kid again...
I completely disagree.
I think I disagree with that whole thing.
