I really like to compliment people, but it is rarely even worth it because women always either deny it or assume you are flirting/creeping and men just think you are gay.

Not at all. It's one of the easiest compliments to give. I prefer giving specific compliments, really. But that's a comprehensive one that really sums it up well.
