The confederate flag(s) was created to symbolize oppression and brought back by politicians in protest of the civil rights movement. If it's not inherently racist, I don't know what is.
I feel like this argument could go round and round. I have attached a link that will probably predict our points and neither will change our mind on the racism of the flag.
Agree to disagree?
Yes, I did and I see that there are a minority but still plenty of people that don't rewrite history. It's not a matter of opinion but as jlong said, no one's going to change anyone's mind.
Probably not, I was curious if you have realistically examined both sides of the heritage vs racism debate. I just hope it isn't because of prejudice towards the south.
History, good and amazing facts. Slavery existed under the American flag and slavery was not the only issue of the war. Did you know the big NYC banks and corporations financed the slave trade? Built the slave ships?
"Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural
and normal condition." So he does not equivocate, apologize, spin. Clearly the foundation of the confederacy was white supremacist so the KKK didn't hijack it they stayed true to its cornerstone and foundations.
Genocide and atrocities were committed under the US flag to the Native Americans. Under your reasoning the US flag is no different than the Confederate flag.
The thing I think pro-Confederates don't get is that we're not saying all other American history is pristine. But America was not founded on upholding slavery. The American flag was not created to symbolize supremacy.
I'm certain you know that the current Confederate flag is a revival of one of many battle flags that came about the 1960s. One that originally included a white segment to symbolize white supremacy.
You should come on down to Mississippi for a visit. Alabama, Louisiana. A good tour of the area, the small towns and big towns. Get to know the people. Stay in little towns like Smithville. Eat some good soul food.
I remember us talking about that. The large cities of the south have very affluent areas. Very affluent. No different than any other region in their offerings of culture.
Even here. I have some filthy rich relatives. Unfortunately I did not inherent those genes or talents...maybe fortunately actually given their attitude.
Dallas, Atlanta...$$$$ Sometimes go to a real estate site like zillow.com and look at the nice homes for sale around different areas to see how people live. I do it for fun. Better than a magazine.
Pirate the union was not founded on the values of white supremacy like the confederacy that's h huge difference. Lol. Nice try you're blasting away but there is a difference. And the KKK didn't have to steal the flag it represents the heritage the
say that it does- they are in fact living up to the the true meaning of its creed. Saying the north did it to is a wrong and impoverished argument. Also, that being the case the civil war would never have happened. Keep your flag keep your heritage
but don't expect everyone else to follow the twisted logic and completes fantasy it takes to hold that in place. Lol. Fly your flag have your southern pride but know you are living a fantasy to most everyone else.
By the way if you don't know already I grew up in the south and I regularly visit family and friends there. So no amount of southern charm will shake my view. Southern heritage is mine too and it don't include the confederacy. Lol.
