If you tried it on in the store, and the other guy tried it on before you, and you didn't wash it before you tried it on...

What's the point?

Might be a soy allergy. Starches in new clothes are soy based and I have an allergy. Even if its a new coat, gloves, I break out swell up like a balloon. It sucks!!!

I buy all my Hanes underwear out of the sealed package... I don't think they repackage those... Michael Jordan wouldn't do that

I like how you treat your clothes like NBC summer TV lineup. If you haven't worn it, it's new to you.

corn - I agree!
I "liked" your comment because I do the same thing.
It's interesting that people make such a big deal about washing before wearing but will try clothes on without a second thought.

I mean, obviously if it seems like it needs to be washed, I'll wash it. but you have to try them on without washing them anyway, so you're sort of screwed anyway if they're infected with something dangerous. I usually just go with my instincts.

Wait...what? I thought it was just one of those things that everybody does. That's nasty. I can't believe this many people don't do this. After I got a rash from wearing brand new clothes out of the store I started washing them.

Omg! You are so right!
That is hilarious!

Blueskies - I've never thought of that!
I wonder if spraying clothes with Lysol would have killed the bugs you mentioned.

No???? Did you ever see what they do to them. Do you really want to put a hand towel used by every one in the store on your body. Ewww yech. Dirty foreigners sweating all over your shirt for $2 a day....

I wash everything...clothes, bath towels, and even never where their loyalties lied...

11/28/12 6:55 pm

So somebody has time for that.

11/28/12 6:48 pm

It's a must. I don't know who had them on before me...

11/28/12 6:37 pm

Who knows what nasty beast tried them on before you! Plus, they don't smell good.

11/28/12 3:26 pm

It depends on the garment

A person I knew caught round worm from trying on new clothes at the department store and another told me about people talking about treating their body lice in a dressing room had tried some clothes on.

I rip off the tags and put them on... it hasn't killed me yet, so I'm assuming it's pretty safe.

11/28/12 1:45 pm

Trick question.. I don't wear clothes ????

Maybe not repair, but you'd probably wash and wax the exterior and Scotchguard the interior shortly after bringing it home.

Clothes get worn, returned and resold. Surely you wash underwear before wearing. Interesting the contrast with sharing toothbrush question.

It's my understanding that new clothes are packed in formaldehyde and things like that so I'm getting to the point where I find the time I do wash new things.

I don't, but my daughter-in-law does. Most of my new clothes come from a secondhand store so those I certainly do wash.

I work in retail, I know the nasty people that try stuff on, NEVER would I wear unwashed unless I hand picked it out of a plastic bag off the truck.

11/28/12 8:30 am

You're supposed to throw Depends away after use, not wash them.

New clothes are itchy so I wash them first. T-shirts are the worst, but sweats I can wear no problem without being washed.

It depends on the store it came from.

11/28/12 5:27 am

Only undergarments.

11/28/12 5:14 am

Absolutely. Between the chemicals on them and the grossness left behind by the folks who tried it on before you, you'd be crazy not to. Hello, MRSA!

Usually, unless I'm really excited to wear them.

The only article of clothing I DON'T wash, is when I purchase a jacket. @HolyBabble, that's just plain funny! I look forward to all the 'little arrows' pointing up to your post! :D

The manufacturers add chemicals to "preserve" the clothes until they're purchased. I have an allergic reaction to them and swell up and get red and itchy. Ugh.

gonzoboy Arizona
11/28/12 4:43 am

That's 'cuz cars are usually removed from their package, unfolded, washed, detailed, and air-freshened prior to your purchase. :)

I have to wash Dickie pants several times after I buy them. They're so stiff, like cardboard.
I hate a stiff Dickie !
