This happens every summer: I have flies in my apartment. No food out, trash taken out, and still for every one I kill, there's another one or two buzzing around. Do you have this problem? Any ideas on how to get rid of them and keep them out?

I'm allergic.
I'd rather have the flies than a stuffy nose and itchy, watery eyes.

I just don't want to pack up and move and then have the same problem at my new house. I mean, moving sucks.

I use bug bombs.
If that don't work then maybe a shotgun.
Vinegar, a little sugar and a few drops of liquid soap works for fruit flies.

Anyone remember the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Elmer Fudd was chasing a fly all thru the house with a shotgun?
That was back before the PC cartoons of today.
Anyway, that's where the shotgun reference came from.

this website says

Hang pine boughs at entry points throughout the house, as flies dislike the smell of pine oil. You also can make fly-repellant sachets using tea bags and cloves, as well as set potted false indigo, lavender, elderberry,

I'll try the pine boughs.

I know that vinegar attracts fruit flies.. Put that in a bowl with some dish soap to break the surface tension and they'll drown in it... Not sure if it works with regular flies though.

What kind of flies? Fruit flies or regular?

Regular house flies. I would prefer fruit flies...at least those are quiet.

Do you have holes in your screens or leave doors open or anything like that?

It's so hot outside (~100 with the heat index most days) that I don't leave anything open.

No ideas at all. It happens here too. I'm sorry though. They are so annoying.
