Regardless of your stance on the helpfulness or harmfulness of GMO (doesn't include organisms created via selective breeding) foods, do you think people have the right to know which of their foods are GMO?

Well Thursday's vote to pass HB 1599 weakens states' rights to label their own GMO foods. Good luck with your mystery foods!

This inspired it. I couldn't help but wonder where the states' rights crowd was. 😒

I told everyone I know to call, fax, and email. I meant to put something on SOH before the vote but have a huge FDA submission I'm working on.

It should be clearly labeled so people can make an informed decision

GMOs are just as if not more healthy than "non-gmos" (almost all agriculture has been genetically modified by humans ie: corn) BUT at the same time you have the right to easy access to know what is in your food

Yeah I have no problem with GM food but I can see the reluctance with it so sure.

And then people would realize everything they eat has GMO's in it and then they'd stop whining about them. I would be happy with that

Of course. When something is labeled a non-gmo product I buy that over the one that isn't labeled.

Yes, but I'm not for mandatory labeling. To me it's unnecessary, and would be difficult considering the poor legal definition of what constitutes a GMO.

07/25/15 1:35 am

I don't think it should be necessary. There's no real reason to do it. It doesn't affect the nutrition of the food or anything really. It just feeds into the superstitions of people who find all they need to know about GM on Facebook.

It'd be like requiring a label of what state the crop was grown in. Absolutely inconsequential information. Requiring it would just be the government being needlessly overbearing.

Label GMOs! It won't happen however, because enough politicians have been bought off. What a great country, best that money can buy...

I'd put it in the same category as ethanol in fuel. Just make it even more public knowledge than it already is that all foods *may* contain GMOs (because most of them do), and call it good. Maybe put up a small sign on grocery store doors.

No, if non-GMs want to label themselves as such, they can voluntarily submit to extra standards.

The government has no right to put a regulatory burden on an industry with no rational basis whatsoever.

As long as it's not spit from a fast food joint I'm ok with GMO food.
