As of this week, new citizens no longer have to pledge to defend our country. Specifically, they don't have to pledge to "bear arms" during their citizenship oath. Is this okay with you?

I don't recall being asked to defend my country. Should I be kicked out?

That's said, defending your country while being invaded would be implied in the citizenship.

Why is this an issue? We allow conscientious objector status to citizens, why not to people becoming citizens?

It may not be likely, but should an enemy seek havoc on our nation, I guarantee you will want someone to defend it. And it SHOULD be the very people who live in it??? Has the world just become so apathetic that no one cares???

If you become a citizen of a country, any country, you should CARE ENOUGH to defend it - even if you never have to!!!! Man up, people!

No born citizen has to take that oath, why should a naturalized citizen have to? What's the difference?

I don't see why it would matter at this moment in time.

Maybe it doesn't in this very moment. But it could, later on. Heaven forbid a war was brought to our homeland, but if it was, I'd like to think that ALL my neighbors would fight to defend.

A war coming to the mainland U.S. is practically impossible but even if it did happen not saying two words isn't going to prevent them from fighting.

They have to show evidence of their pacifism in order to not say the lines, and people born in the US don't have to say those things. I don't see what the big deal is.

I'm pretty sure it has absolutely nothing to do with me!

Good grief, I'm not sure what I meant, other than, that is not what I meant to say. But new citizens not taking the oath would not have an effect on me so I likely would not worry about it. Time for sleep!!!
