At my sisters' Elementary school, last year the kids had pajama day, movie day, etc.But I had a problem with this one.Dress like old people day. To me it seemed offensive. The kids don't understand it obviously, but still. Do you agree it would be?

People in the US often don't respect the elderly. I think this is just an extention of this.

When has "old" become offensive? How is this different from saying dress as a kindergartener or as a teenager?

It's not worded well, but the idea seems okay to me. Especially if they go over-the-top caricature style.

Yeah, sorry. Well some of the kids were talking like they were old, had fake teeth had overalls. Idk. Maybe I just overreacted, but that is what I felt before.

Not the question. The "old people" part.

My kids have a Grandparents day where they dress like their grandparents. Make fun of family all you want.

We had seniors being seniors day in high school... It was one of the best days of high school.

Couldn't they have called it "throwback day" and then give a range of years they think are "old people"? Tell them to dress like someone born in 1930-1940 might dress today.

I think that would've been better.
