Have you ever met someone who went from rags to riches? (through work, not like the lottery or just some coincidence).

I wouldn't say I came from "rags", but definitely lower middle class. Now approaching the 5% mark apparently. It kinda trips me out.

Over 85% of the time, people die in the same economic class they were born in. So yes, its common for people to know at least 1 person. That doesn't justify capitalism. The number of people who stay in rags still outweighs the number who go to riches

There was a clerical employee in our office who is now a very successful comedy writer in Hollywood for TV and films.

There was a regular user here that had an amazing story of coming here as a teen, from the UK with nothing, and now in his late 30's worth $$$. He was an inspiration.

I don't think it's harder, ask any immigrant. I believe most Americans just feel they are entitled to the American Dream just because they were born here. The AD is about busting your ass.
