I lost my basketball game last night and when we lose I usually end up taking the blunt of the blame, and a lot of it, because I'm supposed to be the leader and best player. My coach told me "Lions don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep"
That's why I hate basketball. Most football teams won't ever blame a person for losing a game. You win as a team you lose as a team.
If you team is blaming u for losing, they are all idiots
You may be the lion today, but you will be the sheep tomorrow. Even sheep have something to say if we listen.
Technically the lions would just kill and eat the sheep.
Are you playing college ball?
I'm on a big traveling team prepping for college ball. It's basically a red shirt year
Cool! What colleges are looking at you?
Mostly bigger D2 colleges caught my eye, might go for the Hail Mary and try to walk on to a D1 team
What's the name of your High school?
Unless they can do better they have nothing to complain about
I get the same attacks as a goalie...
Mm, I disagree only because of the portrayal as others as sheep. Fixating on negative opinions can make you go crazy, but putting others and their opinions as below you can make you become a different kind of crazy.
Exactly. The point he was trying to make was good, but the point he did make want quite the same.
Excellent advice. Everyone is aiming at you when you're at the top.
Next time offer the boo/hiss crowd the chance to do it themselves if they feel they can do better. Don't sweat it. No one is 100% every time.
The metaphor seems inappropriate in a team sport. It sounds like the coach thinks of himself as a lion but I wonder if he really was one. In any case, don't lose faith in yourself.
^^ This. If you start thinking of yourself as 'a lion' and the rest of your team as 'sheep,' you're not on a team anymore. You're playing one-on-7 with a bunch of obstacles in the way. That's not a winning game.
He was referring to the fans and people who write about us in the papers and internet as the sheep
Probably the best advice he could have given
It helped at the time, I'm not sure if it's good life advice or not though haha
Yeah, I believe it. Don't listen to the negativity. In this case, you get ready for next game and try your best to prevent turnovers, etc.
