What do you think of people who announce their IQ score, even though no one asked.
Who the hell cares? Your IQ is nothing more than a number which some people feel allows them to validate in their own minds how smart they think they are. If you have to provide your IQ score then I don't even want to talk to you.
It's an oxymoron; if you brag about being smart, you're stupid!
This. If you have to tell me how smart you (think you) are...you aren't. Coincidentally, every person who has shared an alleged 'IQ' score with me has been an overbearing, mouth-breathing moron.
It's the intellectual syndrome.
It's definitely a turn off. It comes off pretentious for sure. But it can be funny if it's low and they're bragging about it.
I belong to the school of "show me don't tell me"
Hee Hee, I'm proud to be out of single digits.
There is a correlation with guys and their penis sizes.
I don't know mine so everybody is safe from me doing that. 😌
If you got it from a website, get over yourself. You're being lied to.
I've seen the main SoH polls get very competitive with users announcing their IQ's. It's a huge turn off.
Although I'm a proponent of intelligence testing, especially IQ, I think it is trashy to brag about IQ scores.
If the best thing you've done with the gift of intelligence is a test score, try harder.
Ha especially if they get it from a website. Of course your IQ is 140. It's not like the company who made it, didn't want you to buy the other products they had for people who are as smart as you have.
If it's being stated just to brag, meh. If it's in a discussion & relevant, cool. Doubly cool if it's good.
Similar to the people that bring up their Mensa membership. Insecure.
Not impressed. Somewhat turned off.
Impressed if it's over 160 or so, but it would probably be obvious.
I think they're insecure.
You're really tempting me to randomly insert things like my height, shoe size, etc into comments!
Thank God a high IQ is not a predictor of success.
It's one of the best predictors of success, but still meaningless in most conversations.
Within a certain range of course but many people with a fairly average IQ surpass those with high IQ in real life success. Motivation makes the difference. As far as I know the last IQ test I had was in grade school and I don't even know how I scored
Those are interesting blog posts, but pick an outcome measure (e.g., income, jail time, job title) and look at specific predictors. IQ beats other measurables in prediction.
I have other sources I could provide to show that within a certain range IQ is not the major determinant of success. But I think you get my point.
Maybe range 95-105, or something close to the mean.
But think about something like motivation as a predictor. It would be mediated by IQ. A motivated person with IQ 80 usually will do worse than a lazy person with IQ 120.
Maybe on a test but not necessarily in the real world. And I'm speaking of higher IQs than you mentioned.
You get my point.
I don't even know mine so I can't announce it. But, I find it pretentious unless it makes sense in the conversation.
My IQ is potato!
Baked or mashed?
Scalloped. With bacon.
Scalloped with bacon? I didn't know that was a thing, but I want it.
If it's over 130, I follow ;)
