I'd rather have a little friendly conversation while checking out.

I consider myself a bit of a techy but I avoid it for some reason. I think I'm afraid I will do something wrong.

06/09/12 2:09 am

I love it, but I find that it's not fast enough most of the time. I try to scan fast but the machine talks to much before being able to accept the next scan.

I avoid it. I try and help people save their jobs by going to a regular checkout. I cannot understand when I go into a bank and a teller asks me if I have tried on-line banking-- I remind them that by people coming to a teller it helps to save their job!

I only use it if I only have one or two items AND there are long lines at the clerk checkouts. I hate using it, though, because I always seem to be stuck behind the person that's never seen an automated anything before and/or can't be bothered to read or it ends up breaking on me somehow.

06/08/12 11:09 pm

Use it because it's short and easy. I hate standing in a long line! Omg I hate it soo bad!

I use it because it usually doesn't have a long line

When I only have a basket I can easily carry, I'll use the self check out. If I have a cart, I'll use a cashier. It just depends on how many items I have.

Some cashiers seem to put bread at the bottom of bags with heavier things above..

06/08/12 9:56 pm

Depends on what I'm buying and how much I'm buying

06/08/12 9:53 pm

My adult kids love it. I avoid it

06/08/12 9:44 pm

Theres a lot of cashier that can make the scanners bloop in slow motion. Before those self scanners came out i would get so mad because i would just rather do it myself

I only use self-check if I have just a couple items.

06/08/12 8:50 pm

Those things take people's jobs. I don't understand the usefulness of them.

At my grocery store we can scan items as we shop and bag them so at the self check-out the only thing left to do is pay. Very easy!

People complaining about this putting people out of work. Use your brains you loony lefty idiots. It creates jobs. People have to build them and maintain them.

06/08/12 7:59 pm

I prefer to scan my own, then I see if the price is right and it is packed right. If you don't like how long I take, go get in another line. I work hard to pay for those things and I don't want broken eggs or smashed bread. And I don't want to make chit chat.

06/08/12 7:56 pm

Avoid. I always get an impatient person behind me who starts immediately after I finish and ends up sending their items down the line while I'm still bagging mine.

06/08/12 7:15 pm

Use with less than 10 items or so...otherwise a hassle...with this new update I can't easily see the first 10 posts or so...fix it, Tony!

I've seen a lot of self checkouts that have employees standing by to figure out the machines when they don't work. Why don't stores just use a cashier?

1 job per 4 self check outs versus 4 jobs for 4 traditional checkouts. You want to do your part to support the American workforce? Use regular checkouts.

Anxiety levels are high just being at the grocery store, rather not make them worse. Use them!

I can't put up with lines and waiting for everyone to get their shit scanned.

06/08/12 3:38 pm

Use it unless I have produce that needs to be keyed in cause that is obnoxious

06/08/12 3:14 pm

Would be great if it wasn't such a hassle. If you bring your own bags it's a pain, if you buy a "controlled" item you have to wait for approval. It's not an efficient system.

I always self scan at any store where it's available. It's much faster and much easier for me to verify the scanned price is correct. You do have to pay attention to who's in line ahead of you - if they're reading the instructions or look old enough to mistake the brake for the gas, move on.

06/08/12 2:51 pm

Depends how many groceries I have and how long the line is

Worked in the grocery for a year, got good at using them. Depending on how far the cashiers are backed up, if at all, I'd use them.
