Your child asks for more food bc their siblings finished theirs and asked for more. You tell them they still have food on their plate and they need to finish that before they get more. They move it to the table and says their plate is clear.

Momma ikr? With all their brilliant attire, their great attitudes and attention spans, and all the care they put into school? Obviously the best generation.

They may be clever, but they act like complete and utter jerks.

Well nick my daughter is almost 2... I don't think I can brand her as a complete and utter jerk

I don't get the desire to have kids.

Tomorrow, they don't get a plate; they get the table as their plate.

I'd give the kid the death stare. He would understand and eat the food.

Depends on the kid. If it's a two year old, you laugh and gently explain why it's not appropriate. A 16 year old gets told to clean that crap up and eat every morsel. Then nothing else.

I would just laugh and say that their comment was pretty good! Please let me know when you have finished your food and we will give you more!

Children are so literal. When I was little we saw a film strip at church. That had a little Adobe house. God was speaking. So of course that was thunder. He said "I will reign over the house of David forever." I figured if I went to Israel I would

see a little adobe house with the cloud above it with lightning and rain coming out. I kind of wondered why God would want to rain on one house for so long. Grew up in Seattle

My two year old did that exact same thing! She desperately wanted a cookie and seemed so earnest in her attempt to comply with my instructions that I gave her the cookie anyway.
But now I'm more specific about how, exactly, she should finish lunch.

Depends on the exact wording of your direction. If you specifically said 'finish it' then her reaction was smart-assed.

I told her she still had food on her plate and once it was clean then she could have another muffin... She is also almost 2...

At that age, I'd say it's clever instead of defiant. She came up with a quick solution to her problem. Y'all better watch out, she's as smart as she is adorable!

Cleaver. You have little smarties. But also depend on what age the child was. I put it back on the plate and go don't put food on the table finish your food.

You may need to be more precise. Emptying your plate isn't the same as eating everything on it.

The demeanor makes it more clever than smart ass. My son has did this, but he was definitely being a smart ass (it was the look on his face while he did it and the smirk after).

I know I'd be angry but I can't think of an actual reason at the moment. "Because I said so" is good enough for me right now.

This is the kind of thing that happens when you raise kids to think logically, from an early age. Prepare for lots more of the same.

I had one like that too, & watched 2 others, kids of close friends, grow up. I swore mine was going to become a lawyer when she grew up, she was so good at arguing points. She didn't, but one of the other 2 is currently in law school.
