An anti-vaxxer offered 100,000 euros to world scientists to prove measles exists & isn't just psychosomatic. Obviously it happened. A German court has ordered him to pay the evidence provider after he refused. Have you heard of a more ridiculous bet?

Stephen Hawking regularly bets against his own theories, he once bet Kip Thorne, that Cygnus X-1 would turn out to not be a black hole.

That's a safe bet to make because we're, statistically, in a computer simulation. There are no causes for anything except data shifts in the computer. That's closer to psychosomatic than true disease- which doesn't actually exist in our universe.

A Holocaust denier organization once offered 50,000 dollars to anyone who proved the holocaust happened.

If I recall correctly, the courts forced them to pay up too, right?

Sweet justice.

I'm pretty sure. I don't recall all the details.

Was he really ordered to pay? I find that hard to believe (not that I'm complaining haha).

Yep! The person who provided the evidence took him to court and the court sided with the evidence provider, saying the information was valid and worthy of the promised payment.

Hilarious. Oh and to answer the question, this is the most ridiculous bet I've heard of, but before now it would have gone to Bill Maher for offering Donald Trump money to provide his birth certificate and prove he is not the son of an orangutan lol

Ha, that was pretty ridiculous. At least that one was for the sake of amusement, this guy was being serious.

Someone should have told that to Trump because, due to his lack of self-respect, he actually provided the birth certificate and sued Maher! He lost of course.
