Greece has threatened to seize German Government property in Athens if Germany does not repay WW1 and WW2 reparations of $254,760,000,000 from unpaid damages by Imperial/Nazi Germany to Greece. This has infuriated Germany. Who do you side with?

That's silly. It's like America paying for black reparations today. Pointless.

I side with Germany. The German Federation settled the issue of reparations in 1990. Greece needs to stop making excuses and pay it's debt.

Greeks can't manage their lazy lifestyle so they want others to pay for it. Maybe when Obama leaves he can show them the way.

Dis Germany voluntarily borrow that sun from Greece? No? There is then no debt to pay.

It's amazing how quickly it turned into a Partisan argument below. My take is this: European parties cannot always be compared to our two., and the nanny state actually sometimes works there if the country can afford it, think Scandinavia.

I believe the problem is that Greece simply doesn't have the economic power to finance that kind of policy, and it doesn't matter whether the government is left or right leaning. They overspend and underinvest. They need to reconsider.

Greece actually threatened to send migrants to Germany, including Islamist militants. They are turning into a rogue nation. No way Germany should pay, especially since the reunification seems to have ended all claims.

Also, two can play the game. If Greece goes through with that migrant and other threats, I recommend Germany sends the 350,000 Greek guestworkers back and confiscates all their assets, including thousands of restaurants.

Germany doesn't owe any money to Greece. That issue was settled decades ago. Quite the contrary, Greece owes Germany over €56 billion. This is a frivolous allegation.

Greece is broke and can't rob their own citizens savings and retirement plans, so they dredge up some dusty old debts.

You're making the mistake of assuming their politicians are on the same part of the political spectrum ours are. They're pretty much all left of us. The nanny state is so entrenched over there that even their economic conservatives propagated it.

Rotavele Alabama
03/12/15 9:42 pm

I don't think you know how the political spectrum works. Our right wing is far right, Our left wing is centre-right (democrats) on their scale. Their far right is the golden dawn party, who now has 15 seats.

Yes, their right wing caused its collapse

Rota, unlike our right wing, their "right wing" generally believes in big tax and spend governments with a long list of entitlement programs even you would balk at.

They can't afford their enormous entitlement programs anymore, rita. They're broke. They've been bailed out a number of times already, imposed austerity measures, and raided retirement and savings accounts.

Milkdud, entitlements can't really destroy and economy anyway. Do you know what entitlements are?

Rotavele Alabama
03/12/15 9:53 pm

And in a recession, entitlements need to go up. Or tax cuts for the lower class and only the lower class. Giving more money for poor people too spend = they spend it and it doesn't sit in a bank account. When it's spent businesses get profit.

Compared to the United States, Germany is socialist.

Germany has laws that workers can fire a CEO if they vote to.

Germany required like 30-40 weeks of PAID leave for pregnancies. As well as require a month of paid vacation for all workers.

Rotavele Alabama
03/12/15 9:56 pm

Their minimum wage is high, they spend and are improving education.

They make businesses pay their workers fairly.

They passed the United States in exports and are now under China for the most exports.
