A photographer took pictures of the newborn baby of a US Navy veteran sleeping on/in the American flag. The images have become very controversial because some argue that it's desecration. What do you think?
I think it's beautiful
It was perfect.
I'm tired of other people trying to tell yet more people how to be a "real" patriot. The "I'm more patriotic than you " rhetoric is very annoying.
It's a sleeping baby not a blow torch calm down
A sleeping baby can't desecrate anything.
People might actually think that baby is in the military, how dare that baby impersonate a military official?!?!
Also Olympic athletes do it all the time, why any different for a baby?
Get over it.
Most people have no clue about proper flag protocol, either. That said, this is a lot less desecrating than flag undies or t-shirts or bikinis, etc... (No, i don't think any of those are patriotic.)
Apparently it's not so controversial on here at least. The media overhypes how much "outrage" there is over certain things, and half of the people ranting about stuff online are misinformed or just "trolling."
Yep. The media often "creates" the controversy. Must be a slow news day.
Media tend toward hyperbolic exaggeration as a matter of course. If anything can be described as outrageous, shocking, etc, it will be, whether it is or not. "If it bleeds it leads." If it doesn't bleed but they can make it sound like it should...
I think people really need to get a more productive, life-worthy hobby.
To clarify: specifically the people who are all bent about it.
People need to get over themselves. It seems some people will stop at nothing to create mass rage and hate. I find the image, and the symbolism, beautiful.
I don't really think Either
I think the people making a Big Deal out of it are lacking anything interesting in their lives.... Aka... Idiots!
It violates flag code, both that the flag is carrying something and it's being used as clothing. Whatever. Worse, it's actually morbid. The flag is only used that way over caskets.
Haha wow. People are so crazy with their idols. I love the folding.
Anybody can do anything to the flag, who cares.
But the people who choose to risk their lives for this country especially get to do with the flag whatever they please.
Whatever I was about to post here wouldn't have been nearly as spot on as this. 👌
Flag definition by Bierce:
n. A colored rag borne above troops and hoisted on ships. It appears to serve the same purpose as certain signs that one sees and vacant lots in London “Rubbish may be shot here.”
(Updated Definition) Flag: n. Kindling.
People do it all the time with their babies...I'm not sure why this one is such a big deal.
Mostly just dumb, not deliberate desecration. You'd think someone who is a veteran would be a little better acquainted with the flag code, but some people get goofy when there's a baby involved. At least they didn't use it for diapers.
I love this photo so much. It's been a huge debate in my spouses group. We're all on board with the photographer.
If only America cared about big issues as much as they cared about the dress or this baby.
I think the photos are great. very creative
Oh geez. It's a symbol. Burning the thing is legal. Don't the people having snit fits about the baby suspended in the flag have any actual *problems* to talk about?
Exactly. I think it's a cool image, actually.
Megan McCain wrap in flag
Is that a real flag?
Maybe. I personally don't think it matters.
For people who do worship the flag, how can wrapping yourself in the flag be anything but great symbolism?
Oh, I think it matters because the entire idea of desecration goes out the window if it's not the flag. That would be mere blasphemy instead. ;)
It's just a baby.
People who worry more about what the baby sleeps on than poverty and racism and all the other real problems in this country are the ones desecrating the flag.
The baby should at least be fined for disrespecting the flag.
