Have you used homemade detergent to wash your clothes during the past year? (UserQ)
It's incredibly cheap to make, and we save so much money every year. We have 3 batches that we make; one for me (unscented), one for my sister (scented with lavender), and one for my parents (scented with lemongrass). Although, sometimes my laundry smells like lemongrass-lavender.....
It takes about 15 minutes and an overnight cool down to make two gallons. Who doesn't have time for that?
The Duggers family website has a recipe that works great. For a family of 7 we can wash clothes for about $50 a year.
You can make your own detergent??? Cool
This sounds like some hippie nonsense. Flower power brah
Never heard of it, but would consider it if I had the time.
Why are so many of you assuming we make our own soap for economic reasons? I don't. I do it because I don't want to pay for shipping water, I want my washer and drier to last longer, and I like the results a lot better.
I've never even HEARD of homemade detergent. Weird.
@liberty Haha, that was my reaction exactly.
I used home-made soap for years, until the washer died. My homemade soap doesn't work super-well in our HE machine, so I now use Charlie's, baking soda, and vinegar.
I used Borax WITH store detergent, I didn't know it was the base of a homemade detergent!
THATS A THING?!?!?!?!?
Obama is better than either President Bush and President Reagan. And President Clinton was better than President Obama. President Clinton will also be "the first man" in 2016. Go Hillary!!!!! :-)
Can you make you own detergent to work with the new c2 washing machines?
Bush, Jr is an idiot. Now Bush, Sr on the other hand isn't. It's clear that the Apple of a genius from Father to Son didn't make it. Personally, Obama is ahead of his time. As much as people feel they are liberal, the country is still too conservative for his proposals.
I always find candles made pouring wax over ice cubes interesting to look at
Did you say Obama makes his own soap? I didn't know that!
Obama is the worst president ever.
What an embarrassment. Makes bush look like a genius.
Mitt Romney uses Downy with 4-5 dryer sheets per load.
No, but it looks very easy, (after a quick google search), and I think I will try it the next time I need soap. I'm going to try the powdered kind because it looks the easiest.
And mitt Romney is an idiot
so let me get this straight....
you make your own soaps...
but you have a data plan.
Yes, it's really easy and cost effective. My wife and I also make our own hand soap, house hold cleaners, and smelly goods
and you have an iPhone/iPad/android?
Yes, in this economy with no jobs you need to.
Who has the recipe?
Who the hell has time for that? I barely do my homemade dinners!
When you buy detergent, you are paying mostly for water and shipping that water water to the store. We make 2 gallons every 4 - 5 months. The results are far better than store bought detergent. Some recipes don't include this, but add a small amount of blueing to get brighter whites.
No. This is a really strange question.
That's all we use since we switched a couple years ago. No fabric softener needed, which is hard on clothes and the drier, a fraction of the drier lint, no static. I'll never go back.
I only do homemade or completely natural but rather just homemade. I live in a city my kids go to public schools. I am a "normal" person just trying to do the best for my family.
Not yet. When this last bottle of All runs out, I'm going to make my own.
Never heard of homemade laundry soap??! Get on Pinterest!
I'm a Gain whore!
No, but I did just buy all thw supplies the other day.
You can do that
You can do that?
Never heard of homemade detergents...
Huh? Homemade detergent? What the hell....? Who has the time to do that?
I've never heard of homemade detergent
I've heard of homemade cookies, yet this takes the cake. Pun intended.
No, I have a Costco card, a regular paycheck, and a house without wheels under it. I do live in the Appalachia of the West though - if the Clampetts move in next door maybe they'll whip me up a batch.
I have in the past but am not convinced it made a big difference in either the environment or my budget. So I returned to convenience and recycle the plastic bottles.
Yep! Borax, washing soda, and grated dr bronner's soap.
People make homemade detergent? These days?!
No I take mine to the car wash and ride through the wash, excellent wash,Chiefs Auto Wash, S. Euclid Ohio
