Do you run for exercise regularly?
I run for my life if I have to. Otherwise I swim, bike or hike.
Just finished the Houston Marathon! I'll be running until my body won't let me.
Swimming burns less calories than running. But it is more beneficial for cardiovascular health.
Unless you have crappy knees, bad ankles, and arthritis in your hips.
My son-in-law ran AT a bear. But the bear was already running away, down the steps from their deck.

I run regularly. Some of my friends say they can't run to which I ask "Could you run if a bear was chasing you?" Most of us can run, we just don't have the will power or commitment. We need bears. Lots of bears.
And 4,999 ways that take longer to have any positive effect on you.

The question was specifically about *running.* If you look at the comments, you'll see many people here are doing lots of exercise... just not necessarily running.

You are right. And I am very aware of the other options. Running though, is the best option for you to get and stay in shape. Many find it to difficult and not worth their time or effort. Their are also some that cannot physically run as well, and I understand that as well.
At my age, I'd probably have a coronary after the first two blocks lol. But, I regularly walk anywhere from six to fifteen miles on my off days if the weather is nice

Geez people! Is running the only exercise that's acceptable? I swim. It's great for toning, burns more calories, and doesn't destroy your body like running. So take a giant chill pill before telling everyone they're sad for not exercising the way you want them to.

Why is it sad? Are you assuming that people who don't run don't exercise in some other way? Bad assumption!

I run to loosen and warm up my muscles before exercising.

It does not. Sorry. If you walk a mile, then run a mile, you do NOT burn the same calories. Google it.
I run 5 times a week for 10 minutes max. One day ill make it to 11 minutes...until then, the 10 min run starts off my workout each time.

I dont go on runs but i exercise everyday whether its running or not

FIAT that's a different guy, Fixx is the guy most credit with starting the whole running for fitness nonsense - he died back in the '80s.

The White Horse as he was known (in addition to other names) dropped dead on a run last year. He was 50 something. According to the autopsy, it looks like it was a genetic heart defect. All his ultra-running couldn't help that unfortunately.
