If you are arguing against affirmative action with something along the lines of: "The minorities just aren't smart enough!" then you're the reason we need affirmative action.
We don't need affirmative action, we need equal access to education, like Germany.
I've never heard that argument before
Who argues using that logic??
Nobody in history
I wouldn't use that argument, but Affirmative Action is quite a racist program.
My argument against it is that it is govt sanctioned discrimination. College students don't get free help, so why should they? They're not more important than us. And to say that they need more help than we do to reach the same point....
....is tantamount to saying that we're better than they are because we can go farther without help. We aren't better than they are, and they aren't worse than us, so we need to stop acting like there's a difference between us.
If we don't, then there always will be a difference, even if it's just perceived.
Stupid is as stupid does! Forest Gump!
I don't think I've ever heard that argument. Do you have any reasonable source for it? And before you give some super right wing nutbag, I did say reasonable.
That's the argument that comes up all the time. "The reason there aren't more minorities in these positions is because they aren't smart enough/don't work hard enough, etc."
In fact I think that's usually the only argument I hear.
That is BS. I am against affirmative action and not remotely think that minorities are less in any way. I haven't ever heard someone saying that.
I don't think very many people argue this way over affirmative action.
Who would argue that? O.o
That actually sounds like an argument FOR affirmative action!
That's what the question says.
The question says against, not for.
While it may not be worded clearly enough, what it says is "if you're making this argument, that's why we need affirmative action"
That's why liberals should not think poor people are not smart enough to get a photo ID to vote.
I'm pretty sure that reasoning has never once seriously occurred.
