(JustAlabamaThings) A very common slogan in AL elections is "We don't want big government". It sounds nice, until you realize not only is our constitution the longest in the country, it's the longest in the entire world with 883 amendments.
They just spelled "big" wrong. It was meant to be "good".
Constitutions are generally made to limit Government though. So such measures and care being taken in that Constitution is good.
You must have not seen our recent amendment for sharia law.
I did not say All parts of Constitutions limit governments. I said that generally Constitutions are made to limit government. I heard about it. Whatever floats their boat.
I know you didn't but I was saying look how crazy we are.
Eh, everybody thinks their state is crazy.
Amendments do not necessarily mean more government.
Depends. Do those amendments say what a government can/can't do or what a person can/can't do? Basically, are they freedoms or restrictions for people.
Well to put it nicely. It's still 890 even though we've taken out the interracial ban, gay ban, Anti-Catholic/Jewish amendments, racial segregation, etc.
Interesting. I'm not surprised by that. But I must ask. What state has the most amount of laws? I honestly have no idea and am quiet interested.
Achilles, I am not sure. Good question.
Long doesn't necessarily mean big, depends what the amendments say.
Republicans do want big govt. They want to control your personal life.
No, not really.
They want to say some people can't even get married.
Yes and no. Some do. Some just want the concept of marriage saved for churches only. Keep the government out of our relationships altogether
No they don't, Pirate.
So Republicans are for same sex marriage now?
If a church is willing to marry them, I'm fine with it
Many states and the country need to just rewrite thei constitutions with only the current necessary parts.
Well normal states do. We have had several constitutions. The founding one, The Secession as Republic of Alabama, CSA constition, Reconstruction, The one between that and 1900. Then the one of 1901.
False. It's more like 890+ amendments now due to the recent amendments on "foreign law" and legalizing hunting and fishing under regulations (which has always been the law already)
