A couple enters the U.S. illegally and then has a child, who is now a U.S. citizen by law. If discovered, should they be allowed to legally remain in the country with their baby, or should they be deported?
Why would they not just give a chance to become citizens , it's hard on the child if you don't.
The kid can stay. The parents should be deported
That's the whole scheme. Cross illegally to give birth here and boom, an american citizen is born. My aunts sister and law did the same and now lives off the govt. Pathetic. I'm a Latina and side with what is right. Not b/c we share a race.
Yep, get them the h*** out.
Sorry but you can't just come to this country illegally, have a baby and be off the hook. If that was a law then a bunch of immigrants would do that and then over population years later. Ewww
The kid should be deported also
If we allow the parents to stay then illegal immigrants would get pregnant on purpose and come to America to have the baby, they should be deported
This applies to my best friend's parents... I honestly feel sorry for her.
They broke the law deport both of them! illegal immigrants
They're not immigrants. You have to present yourself to the government and be accepted into this nation to be an immigrant. You then have a right to be here.
These people are illegal aliens with no right to be here.
Ok illegal aliens
eat a dick fuckwads
Awwww is one crybaby offended ; .(
Kaela ... you appear to have issues with facts. I'm sorry for you.
Leftists pretending to care are not the friends of the lawbreakers. Leftists just see illegal aliens as a meal ticket to power.
Here's why: If I went over to some other Country illegally and had a baby and got caught, I'd expect that I would be deported. I guess you could say I'm for equality on this issue.
No. Deport the baby, too. Marrying a Chinese girl wouldn't make me an Asian.
Which is why step 1 of immigration is secure the border. We've gone thru the "amnesty- first, secure-second" ruse too many times. Why do we fall for that same old trick?
A couple kills three people. They enter the US illegally. They have a child. Their home country prosecutes them. Should they be protected to stay just because of an "anchor baby"?
No, because murder is attached to the situation. Are all illegal immigrants axe murderers? No.
Will ... please publish your address and phone number so we can send the illegal aliens over to your house to live.
Please leave the door unlit and the light on ... Thanks!
Liberal households should take in all the illegals. If they want them here so bad let them shoulder the burden. That doesn't mean all living on welfare.Pay your own damn way.
You sound ignorant. Illegals come here to WORK not collect welfare. Who is on welfare. Mostly white people born in America. How about putting some of the filthy rich exploiters of cheap labor in jail?
The breaking the law deport him a lock them up.
Honest hard-working immigrants are welcome.Sneaky lawbreaking douche bags can go home.
Umm that's a lie most illegal immigrants ARE coming over her cause they know they will be treated better than half the actual citizen of the United States
You can say whatever you want. But reality is reality and you have lost your grip on it. Why don't you hate the men who sent the jobs away?
... And that illogical anchor law needs to be repealed.
They should stay till the kid is 18
Defintitley deport, but don't separate child from parents. The kid would retain his citizenship, and if he/she wants to return as an adult, the U.S. Should respect that, just like the parents should respect immigration law
This is exactly what the Africans would do. They would go to Ireland on a "vacation" have a baby and gain citizenship. Thankfully that law has been changed to deport them regardless.
The kind of immigrants this country NEEDS are the ones who respect our rule of law! And there are millions living here right now! We act as if illegals are the only ones out there.
Obama would throw all those who are legally applying to enter the USA under the bus. So this is the man Democrats voted for. All so the Democrats can pick up more voters and not for humanitarian reasons.
The key word here is ILLEGAL. There is no debate, there is no discussion, they broke the law and have to pay the consequences, period. Otherwise, the law is completely useless.
But that only requires to U.S. CITIZENS. They aren't yet......
The key word in this question is; Illegally.
All beyond this is void as discussion points.
The baby was a product of a felony act and therefore should have it's citizenship revoked.
Deport all three!
Deport, in most cases the parents have had the anchor child for the purpose of being able to stay. The message needs to be sent that it won't work anymore. As a citizen I'm not choosing to orphan a child the illegal parents are.
Firkin racists. I was raised here, have no shred of Mexican knowledge, established business, and have to be taken away from everything I love because of my Parents' mistakes? Frikin racists.
If you were born here you would stay. Your parents would be deported. And how is it racist? Your parents came here illegally.
Racist ... NO! Law-ist ... Yes!
Your parents committed a felony and you and they should be deported.
The 14th amendment asserts anyone born on American soil is an Americans citizen. We cannot ignore that constitutional fact.
Congress ... agreed, but I hope you'd agree that this is NIT what was intended by the amendment and that this loose interpretation is being exploited and causing unnatural and even dangerous behaviors.
As a result, the law should be clarified and children of illegals should NEVER be covered in the future.
Then what was the intention?
The text clearly states born on American soil = citizen.
I know what it says. Do you think they intended it for those brought here illegally?
Do a bit of research on it and you'll be surprised!
Do you think the founding fathers intended for machine guns? No. But the text is what it is.
Toss the parents! let one of these passionate folks who demand the child stay take good care of the kid. I'll thank you for standing by your beliefs.
Congress ... the founding fathers intended that we'd have the freedom to protect our families from an irresponsible government that would attempt to steal our freedoms.
They couldn't imagine automatic weapons, they certainly saw what gov't would do.
They should stay.
It's what Jesus would do.
And I mean actual jesus, not Republican Jesus.
There's enough adherents of Republican Jesus here on SoH for you to get an idea of what that's like.
Church and state should be strangers to each other.
Stiletto ... what did Jesus do with the money changers in the temple? Did he let them stay?
Sigs ... the problem is that the state is becoming more aggressive and take away those freedoms held most dearly.
Why don't all you who voted "deported" think about how it would be if you were in their shoes, we were all from someplace else, unless your Native American so technically we should all leave
Bench ... they have no right to be here. I've lived in their countries and they aren't plagued by the same limousine liberal guilt that we are cursed with in the US.
we stole American land from native Americans, most of us have no right to be here and they were born here which means they are citizens
^The Native Americans were few in number to the land they supposedly owned. Moreover they sold it to us, hence the term "Indian Giver"
The baby should not be granted citizenship unless the parents go through the legal proceedings necessary to become legal residents of our country.
Border lines are on a map, just that. Yet we have also written them on our hearts if we cannot accept these people. Believe it or not, not every immigrant is a drug-selling rapist. The majority have families and are coming to america for basic rights
kaz ... please publish your address and leave the door to your house unlocked so we can all come over and help ourselves to your things as the boundaries of your house and possessions aren't real.
Everyone here (or at least the majority) is or descended from an immigrant. To say that people who are being oppressed cannot come here, the land of liberty, is ridiculous. "Give me your poor, your tired huddled masses yearning to breath free".
kaz ... in your mindless leftist zeal you've missed one very important point. We allow millions to emigrate annually. We're only talking about those who enter as criminals, breaking our laws, not those who follow the rules.
Yes. Those ppl immigrated LEGALLY. They were determined to be free of disease, promised to take care of themselves, obey US law, assimilate, learn English. They accepted & complied w/whatever legal obligations were in force @ the time.
We welcome anyone who willing to do exactly what our ancestors have done: comply with US law, learn English, support themselves, assimilate into US culture... become Americans the same way our families did.
We should only allow people in who will benefit us with their skills and not people who will weigh the system to the point of economic collapse. But that's exactly the goal.
It's a touchy subject for me because we wouldn't be Americans if it wasn't for us being immigrants and forcing people out of their home land . And then when an innocent child is born here we are so quick to send it back to poverty . Home of the brave
It's a stupid law that gives you full citizenship simply by being born here. They can be entitled to it, even before those who were not born here, but they right to live shouldn't be granted simply by birth. That would save us a lot of problems.
The baby shouldn't be a citizen
Why not? The baby was born here. Because the baby's parents weren't born here, the baby can't vote, can't officially participate in society?
kaz ... they broke the law to get here in the first place, meaning the citizenship is illegitimate.
The issue with this is that people will start having babies for the wrong reason and I don't think that's right.
Start? Where have you been for DECADES?
That law needs to be changed. That child should be deported with the illegal parents.
Give the parents a chance to make it up to America by pursuing a path to citizenship. If not, Deport the parents. If they want to take their child that's fine, otherwise it goes to foster care.
This is 'Murica! Make your citizenship legal for the baby or get out.
I'm really surprised on these results. You legally can't deport the baby, so therefore the majority of people on here would rather make the newborn an orphan than let the two parents stay. Surprising
Because otherwise they would just all have babies to get around the law. You can't make exceptions like this.
So anybody in prison that have a child should be let free.We wouldn't want to separate the family.
More rapist in arsonists on our streets.....if you're not pro-gun now you will be.
The baby's a citizen, they're not.
Didn't the parents bring the kid into the situation? Why didn't they consider the consequences? They put everyone in a bad situation
Merica: A lot of people do do this and get to stay. They're called anchor babies and for the most part their parents don't get deported.
MKK: obviously it's an unfavorable situation, but that being said I personally wouldn't make the decision to make that baby an orphan
Who says the child would be an orphan? They can take it back with them. Using the child to get around the law would be a no-brainer for many looking to stay in this great country.
dfish ... don't be a drama queen!
Many have said it clearly ... the child should go with their parents -- who entered our country ILLEGALLY -- back to their country of origin and when the child is emancipated, they could apply to return.
Sorry. I didn't mean to be a drama queen.
If me and my wife committed a crime could this be some sort of defense.we have a kid you can't throw us in jail.
If the crime was walking over an invisible line
They came here illegally. Baby or not.
Sorry, liberals. I can't join you in this one. I can't imagine one reason why "they" should be allowed to stay because the baby was birthed inside our borders.
This app is a cesspool of hate...
Most of the internet is a cesspool of hate.
Understanding economics and the limits of our educational, healthcare, and other systems is not hate, it's what grown-ups have to do when reality hits the checkbook. We have a first obligation to Americans already served by those strained systems.
Ok, guy from a state where immigrants don't go...
Ok, um, I'm a gal. And...I spent the better part of forty years between Texas (where I grew up) and Florida (where my kids grew up.) I have a few degrees and a few decades of work experience spanning public admin, healthcare, and social service.
Han ... you are so right. How is it that Democrats so hate the poor in America that they'd put their on power hungry aspirations ahead of the well-being of our citizenry?
It's simply pathetic! Let's stamp out this scourge on our society.
Come in you hard asses, how about the American dream??
It died in Vegas.
What about my American dream. The one that has the government getting off my ass and me not paying for everybody to have an EBT card.
Tpiper is spot on!
Converse ... it's the AMERICAN Dream, but you want to deny it for Americans so you can give it to criminals.
Lol Tpiper why are you dreaming about people who have EBT and the government doing something to your a**?
Everyone deserves a chance at a better life.
Why can't they dream in their own country? Our dream has a price and our credit cards are tapped.
Dude have you ever tried to have a dream in a developing nation? Not even an American dream, just a dream period. Ish is wack son! Dreams always end with you thinking your at a spa in the hot tub but you wake up to a street animal making pee on u.
Converse ... they have a chance to enter the country legally. Mathews criminals ignored our laws and now demand amnesty.
The don't want a chance, they want a handout that they don't deserve!
They should've stayed in their own damn country. And fight for it instead of being sneaky little douche bags.LOL
Just like those nasty ol' Pilgrims did
That had nothing to do with me
American Indian African-American
CTY ... except the fatal flaw in your argument is that the pilgrims broke no laws being here.
The Indians should've never gave them anything or help them make a home here.look how wonderful it turned out for the Indian.Anyone who starts out by breaking this nations laws should be Toast out.
Well ... but Native Americans did give the pilgrims land.
There is absolutely no moral equivalence between the pilgrims, who broke no laws when they purchased the lands and the illegal aliens who are breaking law to get here.
Sure. They "gave" them the land.
The 14th amendment was meant for slaves, not for allowing illegals getting entry with their baby's or pregnant Chinese tourists having their babies here to get them citizenship 140 years later.
Precisely! Democrats again twist a good thing into a selfish struggle for power.
IMO, the law could changed so that the kid is US citizen but subject to deportation until the age of 18 due to the illegal status of the parents.
Exiled ... not deported ... until emancipation.
Stay but their kid better make good grades and not become obese.
So they can be a citizen just without the freedoms of every other citizen? I'm confused...
The child? Yeah, if you're born here most of the time you're a citizen right? Just saying: great you're a kid in the United States, please do well in school and don't become a giant f** a**. Same msg to all the youth of America
Oh yeah and their parents should stay too unless one of em is wanted for crimes in their home country and has a bunch of priors in the US as well. They should be Resident Aliens (wtvr it's called)
For all of you saying that we only care about ourselves and just don't like foreigners, are completely wrong. We are fine with immigrants, as long as they come here LEGALLY. It's not fair to the people who came here the right way.
Plus it is only hurting our economy even more than it already is, because they come here live off the hardworking tax payers or they take other AMERICANS jobs. Which either way isn't a good thing.
I haven't seen many Americans wanting to clean hotels or work fast food....
Dboat, Where do you live? There's plenty of teens around my town who would be willing to do those jobs for some extra cash.
1/2 I'm from CA but I'm in VA now. And I agree with you some teens would be willing to do those jobs, however in my experience that's a minority. And doesn't really have a significant economic impact.
2/2 unless you include the loss of potential work experience that those teens are losing out on. In that case you need to realize that those same teens are going to be able to get jobs later on in life that only citizens can get.
im so moving...out of this country.
You'd better not go anywhere illegally
CTY ... the US is one of the few places where you can get away with that nonsense!
Most countries take care of their citizens first. Once they're whole, then they look to help others. Only misguided leftists believe otherwise.
Why can't we revoke the citizenship from the baby and then deport them all?
Interpretation of the 14th amendment...
I've been taught that the 14th amendment was created to give citizenship to former slaves so now it should be changed to take out the part of anyone born on American soil is American.
Then how would one become a citizen? How would you change it? The only way that you can become a citizen is if your parents are citizens? Or you have to pass a test to become a citizen? Or...?
Exactly, if a parent is a U.S. citizen then the child is a citizen too. And anyone from outside the country who wishes to live here would have to go through the same process we have for immigration (although it needs some reform).
The problem with that is that even before the 14th amendment we recognized that people born here were "born citizens. Under a common law called 'Jus soli'. All the 14th amendment did was extend that right to slaves...
We can get rid of that too, other countries have like Ireland did about 10 years ago
Your argument should be that the amendment needs to be interpreted in its entirety. In that manner it seems as though that that Amm. only applies to subset of people.
But we still have a big question that no one is asking. What does it mean to be a citizen and why I I want to be one? What perks does it give me vs. not being one.
You get to vote and can legally work (get money to support yourself) but you have to pay taxes and serve jury duty and possibly be drafted into the military
The only thing that a citizen is allowed to do that someone else doesn't is vote. Every other task you mentioned has to be done by a person with an extend visa (I'm not sure about the jury duty).
But they have a visa so they get most of the perks of being a citizen
The baby can decide for him/herself when he or she is 18 or 21 . Meanwhile the baby should stay with the parents who should stay home legally.
