Should Apple buy Tesla?
What the heck Delaware tesla should stay separate
I like apple, I love Tesla; however I feel about the two companies separately, Apple doesn't manufacture cars and Tesla only makes cars. These two companies should work together but they need to remain separate.
WAIT CARS OR THE BAND?
I think that would be great! They are two very successful companies with top notch technologies so they both got the????????????. Maybe they could collab aswell. Add built in computers to cars...
iCars? Add that to the list of iCrap.
Apple doesn't share the same company vision tesla has. NO!
So Bubba Gump's Shrimping Co. just ain't enough eh Apple?
I think it would be a great partnership
The computer giant is gonna buy the rock band? WTF?
You made a typo didn't you mean "greatest rock band of all time"?
Aw dammit you beat me to the lunch . Was going to make a witty comment about that but who cares now .
Punch . Darn autocorrect
What benefit would there be to either?
Owning an electric car still has too many inconveniences to make it practical for most people even if the price was reduced. Apple is really good at making things consumer friendly.
can see them building an infrastructure of quick chg stations across the country. A huge and risky investment that apple has a reputation of gambling on. Lower price, convenient use, and technologically integrated could spur a boom that the industry
needs. (Of course their charging stations would be proprietary and only work on their vehicles) ????
For a steep,steep price.
No, Apple shouldn't ruin a good name.
No. I don't want a ginormous corporate conglomerate. Tesla should stand alone. Apple and Google are large as is.
Tesla is so good, from what I hear, and Apple is such crap from what I have observed first-hand
Right on! Have you heard their song Modern Day Cowboy? It rocks!
I think we're talking about different Teslas here.
I thought, since Apple is a tech company, we were talking about Tesla Motors.
Sorry, the greatest rock band of all time is not for sale!
Tesla would suffer.
Why not? It's their decision.
Yes and no. Yes it would be good business deal for Apple. No because it wouldn't be good for the consumer, Apple is already too big, and dominates several market area, so it's better for the consumer to keep them out the automotive market.
No idea what tesla is.
Tesla Motors is an electric car company. Look them up.
Tesla is the greatest rock band of all time and some car company is stealing their brand
Nikola Tesla existed before either of those.
He stole their name too
Doesn't make any sense to me. I don't see the synergy at all. Apple is all about consumer electronics, in my opinion they should make TVs, not so much the actual TV set, but change the way we get TV signal, they could revolutionize cable TV.
Wouldn't an electric car be considered a consumer electronic? Apple could sell them at Best Buy.
It's very different in my opinion. You could also argue they could make microwaves or refrigerators, but I don't think it's right for them either.
Apple should stick to what has made them Great.
Let car companies do cars.
I'm not sure I like this idea. Instead of focusing on the car, how 'bout concentrating on media, display, sound, and related hardware/software. Let the car experts take care of cars, and Apple, you enhance the experience...
No. This is stupid and rambling. The idea that acquisition should drive growth is one of the PROBLEMS with modern "business." Fucking A now I'm pissy.
THANK YOU for saying what I have been thinking for years! Buying up other companies is not flipping growth or innovation! The movie industry is a perfect example of what is going on in business, sequel/prequel/reboot. Where is the NEW idea?
If your asking by an economic gain? Yes. Do I want them to, not sure really.
For the love of god PLEASE don't let Apple buy Tesla. I want one so bad but will DEFINITELY not ever consider buying one if Apple buys it. Jesus what a greedy company
Does this so called Tesla have magical powers? No? Then no deal!
Sure, they could run it off a rotary engine with a three-speed manual transmission, paint it white, add some curved edges, charge, $150,000 for it, and call it innovation.
I knew there would be a post like this as soon as I read the question. Only had to go 2 deep to find one.
You're welcome, sir.
I want more choices than white black and gold colored cars.
Silver, you forgot silver. However I am certain a several companies will provide us with a variety of hard and jelly shells to add spice to the drive.
Nooo, leave Tesla alone
It would be a good business move for them, but not for the future. They would ruin Tesla. Tesla has been very innovative in the electric car industry. If they buy Tesla, the electric car industry will plummet.
Only if they want to destroy Tesla.
Apple would kill tesla and everything they stand for if they were bought by them
If Tesla is profitable.
They are not. Lost $75 mil last quarter on $900 mill revenue.
They made $0.02 per share in Q3 in non-GAAP, and non-GAAP is a more realistic picture of what the company is actually earning.
Never going to happen. Tesla isn't a bargain, Elon Musk has no interest in selling, and Apple doesn't buy companies for any of the reasons outlined in that article.
No. Tesla has a few superficial similarities to Apple, but overall the car business is nothing like the tech business.
A $90000 car that needs a 10 hour recharge every 250 miles? Not for me!
Oh please they're like $50,000 brand new. They're far from expensive.
Hahaah facts disagree with you rot.
Considering you're a hardcore right winger, I don't know if I even have to maybe look it up and then correct you, or just flat out know your wrong. You guys get something right every year or two but I doubt it right now.
Here's some facts for you, scumbag.
The very cheapest model is $71,000 - that's with NO options.
$71k puts it in to the top 10% priciest cars on the market.
Starts at $70,000, you get a $7500 federal tax credit, and then whatever the state decided to throw in ($3k in PA). Also electricity is about 1/4 the cost of gas. Recharge time is 1 hour at superchargers (for trips) and overnight for day-to-day.
sounds like I was right
Hahahah you asked for the price. Not the price on Tuesday when it's raining and the government gives you a credit. No. You asked for the price. I gave it to you. You liberals always spin questions and facts.
No one ever brought up the concept of price. We are talking about whether it is expensive and for the "uber-rich". Clearly it's not as expensive as some make it out to be, and probably 10-15% of the population can afford it.
Thank you honored
Redsox, its either your willful ignorance or gross simplification of issues that makes you appear to be absolute clown-shoe capable of nothing more than incendiary commentary without nuance. Crawl back into the western MA swamp you rose from and stop
Stay out of this, kiddo. This is for grown ups. Rot for some reason thinks something that can only be afforded by 10-15% of the population to not be expensive. Liberals will never admit when they're wrong, which is quite often.
Actually I'm probably the kiddo in this, not them I am 19.
Well 20 in a few days.
Ah yes, I heard mountain brook throws some good parties for spoiled teens.
No they do, trust me, I've attended quite a few.
Red Sox, you really should go back to the Podunk bar you stumbled from and engage them with discussion. I'm sure they find you positively...useless to talk to. Even they know better.
And you're wondering how I knew you were from mountain brook...
1) you think a $70k car is not expensive.
2) many other hints.
There's no doubt that the car is expensive in relation to some other cars. However, people make it out to be a car for the 1% or even 0.1%. It's clearly not. I know a lot of Tesla owners who never before bought a car for more than $35k (includes me).
1) Other users research has shown that your persistent referring to the car as 70,000 is inaccurate and nothing more than a weak talking point.
2) I have no idea where an inconsequential town west of 495 is.
I agree. It's an expansive car but not impractical. Furthermore, it is likely to become more affordable.
Oh and please don't have daddy run a background investigation on me. You won't get anywhere. And I'll run an article in the bham news on some dirt of you. Helps when you know the publisher.
Omg how did you know? Oh noooo
Not the media on little old me.
Can I give you a better picture of me to use?
Redsox, you started with disparaging comments, and now you are just flat out condescending. Even people who might agree with you would be hesitant to express it...
BTW did you go to senior prom? Guessing you were class of 17.
Class of 17 would not have had their senior prom yet but can you still get me in a news paper? I started my own article writing blog just to basically fuck around with and I'd like the publicity.
It was at Iron City. Anyways, if you went, I was there too.
Oops class of 2013
Are you asking me on a date?
I've met you in person.
I'm class of 2013 but I live in Huntsville. Always have.
I don't have mountain brook money, I'm Huntsville money. I have a 2011 mustang, and yes basic. :P
Go on a date!
Redsox I sincerely hope you realize the irony in calling him a spoiled rich kid, then saying you went to many of the spoiled rich kid parties. Which insinuates pretty heavily you're one of those kids.
That isn't an acquisition, it's a bottomless money pit. I can't imagine any scenario where that would be good for Apple or its investors.
There's no ego that could contain the resulting douchebaggery...
Elon Musk knows better.
I think it would be good for apple not sure if other people would want that to happens tho
Tesla was originally created to keep out of the corporate agenda... This would be such a sad move
Name a big business that hasn't used cheap alternatives to real food or mis conceiving products.
Don't worry you can't. If they want to succeed they have to become a capitalist asshat like the rest of us.
ugh. Please no.
No! Apple, please don't ruin a good company just because you want your grubby little iFingers in yet another pie where they don't belong.
YES!!! Tesla is every liberals dream, Apple is awesome. Do it now!
Every liberal likes a multi-billion dollar company that sells cars to the uber-wealthy?
I own the car, and I'm not uber-wealthy.
It's a good car and no it's not expensive
no. awful idea. Tesla is about open-sourcing for the sake of progress. Apple is very blackbox, very closed system. while I do like both companies, they're just not compatible.
$100,000 isn't expensive?
Redsox, it starts at $71,000, you get a $7500 tax credit from the federal govt plus whatever the state throws in. Then additional savings because electricity costs 1/4 of gas, and there is low maintenance. It turns out to be like a ~$50,000 car.
