I think that the states should control the educational standards, because a uniform standard would be impossibly hard for some states and too low for others.

Yes, there should be some minimum standard that has to be met, and I mean always, especially in a country that has private schools and homeschooling.
Private schools aren't held to it. Most opted out because it would significantly lower their standards.

The idea is great. Had they taken the top standards and had all states work towards those (starting with Kindergarten and working up each year), it could be great. Unfortunately, the states with low standards had to be appeased.
The lowering of
standards is why only a portion has been adopted by MN schools.
