What are some differences between the Obama and Bush administrations? (Please try to keep it to measurable differences)
Bush didnt try to hide the fact he is a war monger.
My favorite part of obamas war mongering is how people want him to invade and he doesn't, but rather uses air strikes with the European allies.
Grrr Obama is mean grr!
Tell me, are air strikes acts of war?
If that's your comeback. Then the United States is at war with every single middle eastern country and Pakistan.
Um, that is exactly my point. Look how many innocent people he has killed with air strikes.
Bush never FORCED us to buy his insurance or pay a penalty enforced by the IRS every year. Bush never borrowed 785 BILLION DOLLARS from the Chinese and claimed if he spent this, it would STIMULATE the economy and make us all prosperous.
1) Bush didn't borrow 800 billion, he borrowed 8 trillion.
2) The stimulus money never came from China. That's not how borrowing money to give a stimulus works.
3) Most conservative states make you buy car insurance and have for a long time.
Obama isn't trying to GUT 40 years of environmental protection.
Bush used Tax Cuts (one method) and spending (another method) to end the recession. Obama used transfer payments (Welfare/Stimulus) and Obama managed to over turn the recession.
Obama paved the way for homosexual marriage, bush oppressed it.
Obama used air strikes, bush used ground invasions and had atrocities in Iraq (Abu Ghraib).
Bush got away with war crimes, Obama can't hold a cup of coffee w/o negative press.
Obama handled it diplomatically with Russia and stuck sanctions on them with Ukraine alongside our allies. With the Georgian Invasion, Bush was looking at defensive tactics.
Tomorrow's election will show just h poo w happy the American people are with Obama and the Democrats who have screwed up everything. Remember....these were the same people who Boo'D God at their National convention.
1) They never Boo'd God. You'd like to say that because you'd like another reason to hate on dems.
2) The 2012 election when "No one likes Obama" proved that no, no one likes Obama, but they'd rather have a Democrat as president than a republican.
Living in DENIAL of the Truth is living a lie.
Obama ended DADT and attempted to close Gitmo. Obama addressed health care reform. Bush started to Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and Obama has withdrawn from then. Bush was unsupportive of gay rights, and Obama has been supportive of gay rights.
Obama has sent out a lot more drones. Obama either expanded or maintained the Bush NSA spying programs. Obama has been unable to get Congressional support, while Bush had a lot more Congressional support.
The Obama administration has also been less transparent with the media.
^ they have? Last time I checked Fox does a story on every single thing that the press secretary releases. Otherwise you wouldn't have the base to do a "phony scandal"
That's at least my interpretation, coming from a very liberal perspective. Obama gives very few interviews, and the interviews he does give are softballs. He uses his own photographers often instead of allowing press photographers.
Wait your argument is that he doesn't talk to the world enough? I'd figure that was rather good as that means he's doing more productive things. The media will twist it anyway.
The Obama administration is also incredibly ruthless against wistleblowers. They handled the Snowden leaks very badly in my opinion. They really aren't very transparent about what they're doing, and they're really controlled about their image.
Effectively communicating with the American people and explaining his plans is one of the most important things Obama can do. Answering his media questions in a reasonable way is important. I don't think he's too busy, I think it's a media strategy.
I don't watch Fox News. I'm not some jerk who will hate him no matter what he does. I voted for him, and I would agains but this is an aspect of his administration that I dislike. His speeches are inspiring, but he usually doesn't follow through.
And he doesn't take on interviews or press events where he will face hard questions about his actions.
The idea of closing Gitmo
The bush tax cuts
Ideas don't count.
and Obama let the Bush tax cuts continue, he didn't immediately end them
He did end the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.
He used the extra taxes to fund welfare programs, which in turn had a big impact on pulling us from the recession.
35% of you aren't giving an answer as to how the terms have been different
all of you besides skinner that is
Skinner's doing great.
I really didn't feel like answering. Of course they're different, but it's kind f overwhelming to sum up 13 years of policy.
They are remarkably similar on many issues. Obama is more likely than Bush to be reliant on soft power as opposed to hard power. In addition President Obama has raised taxes while President Bush initiated one of the biggest tax cuts in US history.
*Congress raised taxes
President doesn't have that power
That's true, but the president has always had the power to influence, and the economic policy of soaking the rich has been advocated by President Obama in addition to other tax policies. I think Obama's role in those actions cannot be neglected.
