Fuck the daylight I like the dark

11/04/14 10:01 pm

They should have darkness saving time

11/04/14 8:20 pm

It was created to maximize the amount of daylight hours while not having to change your schedule.

11/03/14 2:34 pm

If we're going to keep it, make the change Monday morning rather than Sunday so the extra hour isn't lost where you can sleep in anyway. Make the spring forward happen on a Friday during work hours. Then everybody should be happy. Easy!

Cancel dst because if we gain an hour then lose an hour later it makes no sense

Just move it 30 minutes to in between and leave it alone. Some people complain kids will be waiting on school buses in the dark or going home in the dark. Adjust the times for school or give them all a flashlight.

if anything we should keep it year round. I'd rather the sun be out later than up earlier.

angstanon San Diego, CA
11/03/14 10:24 am

Exactly. We should stay on DST all year.

11/02/14 11:37 pm

Ask again when we "spring forward." I'd be interested to see if feelings change when we're all losing an hour instead of gaining one...

Rob Be Safe Be Smart
11/02/14 10:51 pm

We should just keep 'falling back' an hour every 6 months or so to get that extra hour of sleep. Sure it's going to get screwy with the whole sun being up in the middle of the night, eventually, but come on. It's an extra hour of sleep people!

I was totally thinking time zones. Haha. Oops.

11/04/14 10:20 pm

I think it was done to maximize the amount of time factories could operate during ww2 without lights because of the blackout restrictions after dark

It puts children on the streets in the dark walking to school and waiting for buses, transfers air conditioning expenses away from the businesses to homeowners during the hottest part of the day. It's a ridiculous concept.

11/02/14 4:40 pm

Everyday we should set our clocks to high noon.

11/02/14 3:25 pm

Not many people seem to know that it the longrun it reduces the amount of power we use.In the fall, when sunrise occurs at a later time,we delay our commute for an hour, meaning it's light out by the time we leave and dont need to turn our lights on.

11/02/14 3:27 pm

Our lightbulbs are much more efficient now than they were. Considering it is only a couple dollars more a year on your electricity and it causes so much stress, it has a trade off that isn't necessarily good.

11/02/14 3:29 pm

Sure, lightbulbs are more efficient now, but the amount of power they use collectively is still significant.

11/02/14 6:07 pm

This is ridiculous. It absolutely does not reduce costs. Every area of the country has different needs and different lengths of daylight hours. Utter nonsense.

11/02/14 3:24 pm

It was originally thought of to move the hours of daylight closer to the work hours to conserve energy from lightbulbs. Since we use them all the time now anyway and they are much more efficient, there is really no reason to keep it, especially

11/02/14 3:25 pm

because there is generally a rise in suicides and lower work production when we lose an hour.

kspells TheOtherOtherside
11/02/14 3:22 pm

Yes, let us all just refuse to. It is something we can take a collective stand on & change. It might even remind us that we can actually Change whatever we want to, instead of just complaining about how mistreated we are by Big BAD GOV.

I would be in favor of eliminating twice yearly time changes; but, living on the west coast, I definitely prefer to keep DST hours all year round. Hate it when the sun sets before 5:00.

bethanyq Ess Eff
11/02/14 1:47 pm

My thoughts exactly. Also it drives me nuts how many people don't know which is daylight savings time and which is standard time. Standard time is the crappy one we fortunately only have to deal with for a few months.

Doopy Remedial Americanism

Most people have jobs and/or class and other schedules that run based on time, not based on where the sun is in the sky.

Zod Above Pugetropolis
11/02/14 11:00 am

Extend the 8 months to all 12, and stop making it get dark earlier for the 4 in winter when it gets dark too early as it is. Basically, we should get rid of standard time and keep saving time.

kermie gaytopia
11/02/14 4:19 pm

No no no. I'd much rather have the light in the morning.

11/02/14 6:09 pm

So basically we should eliminate and ignore time the way has been kept for eons. Or the fact that at noon the sun should be straight up in the sky. Oh, ok.

kermie gaytopia
11/02/14 6:14 pm

Well there's that too :) another reason to leave it set at standard time year-round.

Zod Above Pugetropolis
11/02/14 6:25 pm

Depending on where you live and the time of the year, the sun may not be anywhere near straight up in the sky at any time of day. Or ever. And we've only had clocks and kept "time" as we know it today for a few hundred years.

Blunderbuss Dont blink.

My sundial automatically adjusts for latitude, longitude, season and daylight savings ;-). Seriously, not everyone is centered in their time zone. So you could have permanent daylight savings if you are on the western edge of your time zone.

Zod Above Pugetropolis
11/02/14 10:32 pm

Or even better, practically double daylight saving.

Blunderbuss Dont blink.
11/02/14 10:54 pm

slaves: another good point. Here near the eastern edge of the Pacific time zone, I can definitely notice a difference in the sunrise/sunset times when I'm on the coast.

Blunderbuss Dont blink.
11/02/14 10:59 pm

China has an interesting anomaly. The powers on the east coast decided the whole country should be in the same time zone, despite its vast west-to-east expanse. As a result, remote western China has extremely late sunrises and sunsets.

Daylight savings is when the rest of the country change the time on their clocks and we have to try to figure out what time they are on now.

Kay41 the Midwest

I am not completely opposed to that. However, in some counties where they tried this, many didn't like the sunrise so late. Yesterday our sunrise wasn't until 7:24. In contrast, by the end of this month out sunset will be at 4:24.
