Thousands of people claim to suffer from Morgellons, with which they describe feeling and seeing tiny fibers in their skin. Studies by the CDC, Mayo Clinic, etc. have found no evidence and claim the syndrome is delusional in nature. Real or not?

Actually I was just on Mayo Clinic's website reading about this, and they didn't seem to say anywhere that it wasn't real, just that many doctors were uncertain of how to classify it.

It is real to the person suffering with this. Whether or not some type of mental disorder is manifesting itself in a physical way, the symptoms and experience they have are real.

It doesn't seem like you're describing it correctly. The syndrome is the delusional belief in the fibers, which is of course real.

Sure. I'm asking whether the fibers really exist.

Well some people believe they do.

Some schizophrenics believe the clouds talk to them. Do talking clouds really exist?

I'm sure the symptoms are real, or at least experienced as real. I've experienced formication myself & it's pretty creepy, but it was transient. Since there's been some actual scientific investigation into it & absolutely nothing has been found that

would be causative (except people picking at their skin, then exacerbations the lesions formed), one can only conclude that it's a delusion - at least until & unless some underlying causative agent *is* found. Some of the original cases involved the

Trolling again Cowboy, or seriously that misinformed? ADHD exists - it's just extremely overdiagnosed, and some kids are diagnosed when the school and/or parents want the kid to fit into a cookie cutter mold that the kid wasn't meant to fit into.

As a pharmacist with ADHD (diagnosed at 19 ), I can tell you that real cases exist. Undiagnosed my whole childhood, I never properly developed certain skills that continue to challenge me to this day (32 now). Why don't you try educating yourself?

You really believe that, don't you? Poor thing.

Definitely. Most insist their doctors are colluding or lying. That must be a sad state to be in.

I agree kermie. who are we to tell them they aren't feeling what they are feeling ?

I think we can honor both. We can be clear that what you think you're experiencing isn't actually there, but your experience is still real.
