Have you ever make your own laundry detergent?

Back in the day virtually all soap was lye soap in a block most often homemade in rural areas with lard, lye and water. For laundry soap you shaved slivers off the block into the wash tub.

My country bumpkin aunt did that during a visit when I was a little girl. I tried to tell her I didn't think it was the same... xD

Me either, Kat. I love it! It's cheaper, the clothes are just as clean , and I get to choose the scent. This time I have eucalyptus oil in the batch.

About once every 8 months or so I make 5 gallons. Today is that day.

Is it powdered or liquid that you make?

The way I do it is fill a gallon milk jug with water, get 3 sauce pans. in 1, put 1/3 cup of borax, another put 1/3 cup of washing soda, and in the last 1/2 cup of grated fels naptha. Pour some water from the jug in all 3, and dissolve. Don't let

The fels naptha boil. Once it's all dissolved put them all in one pan stir them up and put them back into the milk jug. Shake befor each use. Use bout 1/2 cup in each load

Will do! About how much does it cost to make that size of a batch?

I haven't figured it out, but not much. $1? No more than $2.
