If a wealthy person complains about income inequality is he/she a hypocrite?

Just because someone is wealthy doesn't mean they can't see that income inequality is a negative thing.

Unless the wealthy person can demonstrate that she has obtained her wealth in such a way that she didn't contribute to income inequality, yes. To complain yet participate is hypocrisy.

Exactly this. If you're wealthy, yet pay any employees you may have poorly and grouse over giving them benefits like health care, then you're a hypocrite. If you're wealthy and not part of the problem, then you're not.

The first step toward fixing a problem is acknowledging it. I would hope that by complaining about it, it would lead to an effort to change policies that are within control. It's tough to change something that is so pervasive individually though.
