An Ebola vaccine will be produced about 5 miles from where I live. Should I be afraid? Or feel safe (or neutral)?
Be afraid. ..Be very, very afraid. (breaks out in evil laughter)
Been nice knowing ya!
I feel like CSUs got it locked down you shouldn't have anything to worry about
Don't drink the water
Read about this the other day. Go CSU!!!
Run for your life!! When the Ebola plague hits, all the victims will swarm the facility.
Do you plan on enrolling in clinical trials?
BTW, I've always liked that picture.
Thanks! I reinstalled it after the SOH poll on playground cops-&-robbers yesterday.
Oh... clinical trials. Hm. I have a feeling this stuff is going to be used in small trials, probably not in the US, & maybe just military related. That lets me off the hook for having to make that decision. =:-)
Your fine unless something happens.
Haven't heard about any containment problems in these facilities other than in the movies.
Invest on a full blown hazardous material suit for when you are walking around town. :)
Good idea, you should all buy them. (My company makes the materials they are made of).
I should have grabbed a full set of PPE, or 10, when I stopped working. Except, well, that would have been stealing.
Alternatively, I could switch to my mask & goggles profile pic, if I can find it.
I didn't even know tyvek was used for those suits until a few days ago.
I knew, you of all people, would not be panicking.
You would be correct.
RUN, just ... RUN
What direction? Wyoming? (It's not that far; about 40 miles.)
Away from where your at! Don't mess with that ebola stuff!
A chance to volunteer as a test subject, ; )
I've volunteered for a lot of medical research studies, but never for one involving medications or injections of anything...
You should feel pretty safe, unless NJ Governor Christie comes to town for a visit. His paranoia is contagious.
Good thing Chris Christie doesn't like Colorado...
Terrified! They should evacuate your state! Or just produce it in Montana.
Yeah, Montana, no one lives there.
So someone created an account just to post this reply. That's funny.
Hah, so they did. Bizarre.
Hey, we'd all love for more people to live in Montana. And North & South Dakota. Also Maine. Because it's often hard to get all 50 states represented in a user-made poll.
I would say quite safe. You can always come out and visit me if you feel in danger.
They aren't using a live virus. you're fine
But... but... but... mutations!
(I'm not the least bit worried.)
Definitely worried. This means your entire town has ebola, including you, and those developers only made it from fear of catching it.
Actually, I would be worried because I think it's just a secret front for the laboratory to say they're producing the vaccine, when in fact they are trying to create the virus that will make the TV show/comic The Walking Dead become a reality.
I'm waiting for the conspiracy-theory comments from area residents to hit that piece in the local paper.
I'd feel perfectly safe with them developing it next door.
Heck, if I had virology expertise I might have been over there looking for a job when I moved here 3 years ago. (They've done research on other viruses - I don't know if the CSU lab is connected with the CDC facility here, but that interests me too.)
I was thinking of you the other night. The hospital put on a toxicology talk it was very interesting.
Too lazy to read. When you say "produce"--are they working on finding/creating a vaccine? Or is it ready for use and they're mass producing it?
I'm not entirely sure, but at any rate it's not at all ready for use. The article says the CSU facility will "help develop" a vaccine but also says it will "make small amounts of the vaccine for testing purposes. The process doesn't use a live form
of the virus, so I gather they're not doing any animal work with it; probably just perfecting a system to crank out dead virus and/or put it in suitable form for vaccine use.
Tops, thanks - I saw a notification from you about that, but it was displaced by other notifications before I could get to it, & then I forgot which poll it was.
