A teacher was caught with a Nation of Islam handout in the classroom. The teacher told the mother of a third grader that he was not supposed to take the Nation of Islam handout home. It was supposed to stay in the classroom. What should be done?

What idiot would think they could teach an elementary school kid anything without the parent being informed. Teacher needs to be counseled, if the problem becomes systemic everyone will know and she'll never work west of the Mississippi again.

Rotavele Alabama

You need to be counseled Corino for believing news articles meant to shock you. Look on the school districts site below where the superintendent calls out fox for manipulating the story.

You guys still give them ratings though.

I read the story, if kids brought home terrorist media on a regular basis everyone would know and it would be a problem, but that's not the case.

the teacher should be counseled' e.g. Principal: "don't leave stuff you don't want kids to see on your desk." Teacher:"Ok"

So many people reacting negatively to this here, and it looks as if it didn't even happen - certainly didn't happen the way it was presented by Fox. It sounds to me as if the teacher printed out a bunch of stuff about Mt Rushmore, maybe saw that this

susanr Colorado
10/28/14 5:21 pm

one with a photo of the place wasn't what he or she wanted at all, & put it in a discard pile.

Now, because of the way the story has been presented (according to the superintendent, AFTER he notified Fox is was inaccurate), people all over are

susanr Colorado
10/28/14 5:22 pm

vilifying the teacher and the school, and it will be used as ammunition against people, totally unfairly.

This is why I REALLY, REALLY hate this kind of "news" store, this kind of "news" coverage, and I HATE it that people read & accept stories

Dear Folks,

In response to yesterday’s coverage by Fox News of an occurrence involving a sheet of paper taken home by a third-grade student at Harold McCormick Elementary School, the following is an accurate clarification:

Rotavele Alabama
10/28/14 11:25 am

First, when this circumstance was first brought to my attention yesterday afternoon in a phone message, I immediately called the school Principal and obtained the details. I then call the individual at Fox back and relayed the

Rotavele Alabama
10/28/14 11:26 am

specific information I had just gotten. The Principal quickly had done a thorough investigation and found the following (all of which was given to Fox News, prior to his national news report):

Rotavele Alabama
10/28/14 11:26 am

1) the sheet in question was not a hand-out sheet distributed to the students; 2) the sheet had been generated from internet information (on Mount Rushmore for a classroom history lesson) for the purpose of providing

Rotavele Alabama
10/28/14 11:27 am

background material for a teacher observation; 3) the location of the sheet was on a separate teacher table adjacent to the teacher’s desk; 4) the student (without permission) took the sheet froma “ton” of discarded teacher’s material on that

Rotavele Alabama
10/28/14 11:28 am

table; then, the student took it home and gave it to the parent."
