There is an initiative up for vote in my state that would make it a crime to take a suicidal friend or family member's gun from them, even with permission, without running a full background check. Support it?

Sounds like the opposite of that one in California.

I oppose all laws that deny someone the right to own a gun.

I'm okay with laws that incidentally deny someone the right to own a gun as part of their incarceration or some such. I dislike gun control applied to the public, though.

You are saying the person taking the gun would need to pass a background check first?!?

If so I see the reasoning behind the initiative but still disagree.

By disagree I mean I could cast a "No" vote on that initiative.

That's the main reason I don't support background checks or psychiatric tests when it comes to gun control. At what point does the government determine we're all crazy and ban guns entirely.

If someone is threatening suicide and you as a friend or family member feel it's necessary to separate them from guns that's a private issue. Government shouldn't interfere with personal judgement.
